elevated Sl3RG It is with great sadness that the family of Carl Anthony Chen announce his passing. God called onto Carl on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 and he passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family. Beloved husband of Julieta B. Chen. Loving father of William. Cherished son of the late Albert & Etta Chen and brother of Michael, Colleen, Winston, Margaret, Phillip, Timothy (Leslie, Stanley, Merline, baby Collen – deceased).
elevated Sl3RG Carl was born in Spanish Town, Jamaica. He lived with his 9 siblings on Cumberland Road. When the family moved to Kingston he attended and graduated from Kingston Technical High School where he made many life-long friends. While attending Kingston Tech, Carl developed a passion for woodworking which complimented the family business of hand carved mahogany furniture at Chen’s Furniture Industry on Constant Spring Road. While attending high school Carl spent many summers in Montego Bay with his cousins, Faith, Yvonne and Dudley Lue on Foster Avenue.
elevated Sl3RG He immigrated to Toronto with his younger brother Phillip in ’73 where they both attended college. Carl later moved to Windsor to attend and graduated from St Clair College to pursue his life-long passion of woodworking & furniture finishing. He later met and married Julieta Pascua and had a son, William.
elevated Sl3RG He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his extended family and friends. May he rest in peace.

Brother Carl, my sidekick, Oh! how I was so looking forward to seeing you in person today, for the last time and telling everyone about our lives that we spent together growing up. Sadly, we got stuck on the roadway due to 3 ft. of uncleared snow that fell last night. How special you must have been to those in heaven and on earth that our tears turned into snowflakes of blessings. I wrote my speech last night I am reminded of some of our life experiences together. Very sadden with the passing of my brother Carl, we will miss him deeply. Toronto received a major snow storm that dumped 25 to 50 cm of snow on the city. This clogged all the side roads and prevented us from attending the visitation & chapel mass to celebrated his life. Knowing Carl, he would just say, “don’t worry about it, you can’t stop the weather”
I have vivid and cherished memories of taking the train from Kingston to Montego Bay in the ’60s and buying pepper shrimps & baked peanuts in St Elizabeth. These simple things Carl loved and enjoyed. In Toronto, Carl and I would have lunch in the mid ’70s at the hamburger joint beside Imperial Six Theater. He would order 2 cheese burgers & a pop for less than $1.50, as we were students. As we eat the burger he would look at the cook and say “best burger”, I would also say the same and this would guarantee us a free burger next time!
Dear Julie & William our condolences go out to you both. William you did an excellent job with the tribute to your dad, he would be very proud of you.
