Passed away peacefully in her 75th year at Markham Stouffville Hospital. Much beloved sister to Sal, Theresa (late Tony Zucchero) and Rosemary. Cherished aunt of Sarah (Darryl), Michelle (Geoff), Leanne (Dave), Vera and Sonya. Great-aunt to Kailyn, Keira, Ava and Mila. In spite of having juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and many health issues over her lifetime Carmela achieved her dream of becoming an elementary school teacher.
elevated JLWdm She taught at Nativity of our Lord Catholic School in Etobicoke for 30 years and retired in 2003. Carmela was determined, feisty and strong, but always had a warm and loving smile for those dear to her. She enjoyed retirement in Markham and for a time lived independently. She inspired many to persevere and overcome their obstacles. Carmela was admired and loved by all. Few will ever forget her courage.
elevated JLWdm The family will receive friends at the Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home, 211 Langstaff Road East, Thornhill. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery. We would like to thank the staff of Markham Stouffville for their excellent and dedicated care, and the staff of Amica Unionville for taking such personal interest in Carmela and making her two years there so enjoyable.

We worked together many years ago at Nativity of Our Lord School.
I remember Carmela’s infectious smile and positive attitude. Her cheerful out-look on life always encouraged me and those around her. May you rest in peace, dear Carmela.
My sincerest condolences to the Valentino family. Carmela was a role model to us all at Nativity . Despite her physical challenges, she taught with a cheerful demeanour, positive attitude and dry sense of humour. A true inspiration!

Carmela showed us all the strength she had to live her best life.
I will miss my dear friend Carmela. Her friendship and inspiration will remain w~ me.
Miss Valentino was my Grade 1 teacher a lifetime ago (1974-75). I remember her as kind and courteous, even to a bunch of energetic 6 year-olds, and as I got to know her during my elementary school years, I learned what a caring, gentle person she truly was. It was clear that she was respected and liked by her colleagues as well. My condolences to Miss Valentino’s family on her passing.

Ms Valentino was one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. She sparked my love of reading, and imagination. She was the purest example of living by your word. Her perseverance, her strength and courage has always been an inspiration throughout my life. I never forgot her lessons, her smile and her warmth.
My heart goes out to you. I hope you’re all comforted by the positive impact she had on so many of her students. Ms Valentino was a gift, and Nativity was most fortunate to have her for so many years. Bless her heart.

Sending healing prayers and comfort during this tough time to Carmela’s family.
Carmela and I go back a long way to our prayer group days at Nativity of our Lord parish during the late 70’s. Throughout these 47 years, our friendship had grown deeper. We laughed and called ourselves “kindred spirits”. We met often at her favourite Red Lobster for lunch. I can still picture her with her White Wine Spritzer and seafood dishes. Our frequent phone conversations were filled with shared stories. She had an infectious laughter.
Although I had health issues myself, seeing what Carmela went through, I was inspired by how she overcame all her challenges with grace and always a smile.
I will always miss her. Rest in peace dear friend!
Carmela was an inspiration to her students and fellow teachers at Nativity of Our Lord School. I will always remember her courage in dealing with her physical challenges. Throughout her time here, she showed determination and a great sense of humour.

Carmela was such a positive influence in so many peoples’ lives – from former students to fellow teachers to family and friends. She never gave up and was determined to live her life to the fullest. She travelled with friends and never let any physical challenges stop her from achieving anything she set out to do. Bravo Carmella!

It was Miss Valentino that gave me Little House on the Prairie. It was Miss Valentino that taught me my cursive skills, just the other day I had to write my name on a whiteboard and someone said you write like a teacher. I said, “that’s because Miss Valentino taught me”. Here I am now and I hear of her death. May she Rest in Eternal Peace, I’ll never forget you. You were loved then and still now. My condolences to your family and all her colleagues. 🌹

My deepest sympathies to Ms. Valentino’s family and loved ones. Right away, she became my favourite teacher, and remained so throughout all my years of education. Carmela is the sole reason I learned my multiplication tables (with her times table flower on the chalk board). I hope she’s ringing that crystal bell in the sky. Rest peacefully ❤️
