Carmen Yvonne Zoe Alvis (nee Nugara) was called home to God peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the age of 81.  She will be forever missed by her beloved husband, Mike, her loving children, Aldrin, Neil, Delrene Persad (Sunil) and Sherine; and her cherished grandson, Akash. 

elevated vDQ3X She will be held dear in the hearts of her siblings, Naomi Patterson (Ivor), Daphne Parham, Audrey Freeman, Noel Nugara, and Beulah Mustachi (Russell). and sister-in-law, Shirley (The Late Andy Mustachi).  Yvonne was adored and will be missed beyond measure by her many cousins, nieces and nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, relatives, and many friends across Canada, Australia and Sri Lanka. Yvonne is now joyfully reunited in Heaven with her beloved parents, Lytton Gerard Nugara and Edith Rhoda (nee Van Langenberg) and brother, Winston Randolph (Ralph) Nugara. 

elevated vDQ3X Yvonne was born in Ceylon (Sri Lanka). A former student of Holy Family Convent Dehiwela and St. Bridget’s Convent in Colombo, Ceylon.  She immigrated to Canada with her parents and siblings in 1965 and continued her higher studies at York University where she obtained her BSc (Hons.). She was employed with the Government of Canada as Financial Officer and retired after 30 years of service. 

elevated vDQ3X In May 2025, Yvonne moved with her husband Mike to VENVI Greenwood Retirement Home in Brampton, Ontario. Although it was short-lived, she enjoyed the comforts at the Home and took part in all the activities – Religious, social and recreational. She leaves behind a very friendly Management, staff and residents.

elevated vDQ3X Yvonne had a beautiful, gentle soul, and a generous spirit.  She enjoyed ballroom dancing and cherished time spent with family and friends. Her home was always open, welcoming stranger and kin alike. Her Christian faith was an essential part of her life.  She was kind, thoughtful, and loving.  We will miss her dearly.
