elevated thNyk On February 21st in her 85th year and surrounded by family, Carol left this earth to be reunited with her beloved husband Sam, cherished daughter Marie and her parents, Norm and Eva. Carol was known by many names. “Mom” to Rose (John), Jo-Ann (the late Vince), Cathy (Ken); she was “Big G” to her grandchildren, Tania (Patrick), Tara (Bobby), Deena, Shanna (Andréa), Andrea (Erik), Daniella (Vince), Christopher (Sarah); “GG” to her great- grandchildren, Benjamin, Luca, Christian, Jenna, Allegra, Robert, Aurora; “Sister” to  Nicky (Cathy), Dolores (the late Nick), Catherine (Joey), and “one of the Nieces” to Aunties Phyllis and Jeanna. She will be missed by all, including her large extended family and many friends.

elevated thNyk  In 1974 Carol entered the full-time working world and began a career at CIBC as a Teller, eventually working her way up to becoming a Supervisor. Carol was very proud of working at the bank and in the 26 years she spent working there, she made many friends and acquaintances who remained a large and important part of her life, to this very day.

elevated thNyk  Carol had a quiet but courageous 5-year fight against melanoma cancer. She never backed down from treatments or the long treks down to Sunnybrook Hospital. Carol was very private about her cancer fight and the pain she suffered. Whoever asked, even if it was her doctor, she would say “I’m fine, there’s no pain”, when in reality we knew the pain was overwhelming. Also, for the past 3 years, Carol fought the downward spiral of memory loss associated with dementia. As a woman who always so proud of being in complete control of her life and remembering everything, she would struggle with the gaps in her mind and having to be so reliant on her family to help with day-to-day activities.

elevated thNyk  In late 2019, Carol moved into Richview Manor Retirement Home and enjoyed the ongoing activities happening there, in particular the weekly singing and dancing events. Carol was known as the “dancing queen” and was always on the dance floor, regardless of the party, music or theme.

elevated thNyk  Carol’s other passionate love that not even Sam could top, was her love of Frank Sinatra and all of his music. Her children and grandchildren were raised on hearing Frank Sinatra music blaring from the record, cassette tape or CD player at all times. He was so much a part of the family that the song “New York, New York” was the family anthem and regardless of the event, if that song was being played Carol, along with her children and grandchildren, would be on the dance floor kicking up their heels and belting out the words. The song shall remain a cherished memory for all of us.

elevated thNyk  In June of 2016 when her beloved Sam had to be moved to the Baker Long Term Care Home, a large part of Carol never recovered from the separation or the fact that she could no longer take care of him every day. Sam was her one and only true love and she missed him until now, when they have finally been reunited.

elevated thNyk  We would like to thank the staff at Richview Manor for the wonderful care and treatment of Carol in the time she lived there and for the support they provided to us, her family, especially in her final days. We would also like to thank Dr. Peter, nurse Adellia and the rest of the LHIN/CCAC palliative care team for their unwavering support these past few months. Their dedication and genuine concern for Carol’s comfort allowed her to spend her final days in her own “condo” at Richview Manor, something that was important to her and the family.

elevated thNyk  Donations to Sunnybrook Foundation – Melanoma Clinic would be appreciated by the family as your expression of sympathy.
