Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Caterina Iorfida on June 15, 2025.
Beloved wife of Francesco Iorfida. Loving mother to Elisabetta (Walter) and Domenico (Zeljka). Cherished nonna to Olivia, Kasia, Alexia, Lia, and Daniel.

Born into a large and loving family, Caterina was the youngest of twelve siblings and grew up surrounded by the values of hard work and unwavering family bonds. She carried those values throughout her life, creating a home filled with unconditional love and delicious home-cooked meals.

A proud and devoted mother, Caterina found one of her greatest joys in her five grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Whether planting in her garden, cooking for loved ones, or chatting with family on the phone, her warmth and love were always present.

Caterina was a woman of extraordinary resilience. A two-time cancer survivor, she faced each battle with grace, courage, and strength. She never allowed hardship to define her but instead inspired those around her to meet life’s challenges with the same determination. Though she lost her third and final battle with cancer, she remained positive until the end and never stopped fighting.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Our most heartfelt sympathy on the passing of Caterina Iorfida, beloved wife, mother and grandmother. A dear friend who always showed immense respect to everyone. She was the strong silent type but mighty in her actions. She leaves behind a strong legacy of an accomplished and resilient woman where her actions spoke louder than words and all with limited schooling. Her’s was the school of LIFE and she has set fine examples for all of us to follow.
We have fond memories of her as we shared numerous events and celebrations and we will be miss her tremendously.

Caterina’s Journey
From Vallelonga’s farming fields
She sailed toward Canada and her families shield.
Using her hands to shaped both earth and dough,
She built a life for us to grow.
Through winter’s cold and summer’s heat,
She tended our tomatoes, and herbs, to eat.
A kitchen filled with pots and plates,
Is where we sat and all of us ate.
Twice she faced death in the eyes
Yet stood so strong, and swatted it like flies.
When we look at our garden and tables set,
Her spirit remains with us yet.
A survivor of life , and strength so true,
Dear Caterina—we all love you.

Dai campi coltivati ​​di Vallelonga

I want to thank you for accepting me into your home and family, where you shared your love of food with me. In the very short time that I lived in your home. Caterina had a special way of making everyone feel welcome. She always took the time to stop and talk to everyone while she and her husband would take their walks. Her kindness and bright light will always be remembered and will live on in the lives she touched .. our neighbourhood will not be the same without her.
