elevated qygv1 Obituary

elevated qygv1 It is with incredible sadness that we announce Catherine “Cathy” Murray (nee Burns) passed away September 12, 2021 at the age of 90.

elevated qygv1 Beloved wife of 73 years to Robert “Bob” (Ruthven) Murray and loving mother of Agnes Sullivan (Michael deceased).  Devoted grandmother to Karyn (Rob) and Allyson. Great Grandma to her wee Madelyn.  Preceded in death by sisters Betty (John deceased) and Violet (Pat).  Caring sister to Tom (Deanne), Sadie (Alec deceased) and Frances (Sam deceased).

elevated qygv1 Cathy was born in Airdrie, Scotland to Thomas and Isabel Burns (nee Clark).  Her strength in spirit and character knew no limits and as the first born she helped to raise all of her siblings.

elevated qygv1 She met, fell in love and then married Bob in 1948.  She immigrated to Canada in 1954 with her daughter Agnes, arriving via the Queen Elizabeth I to meet Bob who had already made his way.  Cathy made friends on this journey who would then become life-long companions.  For anyone that knew her, this is no surprise, as she loved to meet new people and make new friends wherever she went.

elevated qygv1 Toronto became the family’s permanent home and she flourished as a wife and as a working mom in the insurance industry. She and Bob loved to travel and went all across the world coming home with a new story for every adventure. Not to mention many, many, many pictures.

elevated qygv1 Cathy was a devoted mom and sister, an amazing, hands-on grandmother that called her grandchildren every night, a caring aunt and fantastic companion to Bob all these many years.  She gave them her all and was always filled with encouragement, pride and love.

elevated qygv1 While we are sad that we have lost her here on earth, we are comforted that she is now at peace with our Heavenly Father.  She will be forever in our hearts.

elevated qygv1 In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that you make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or to another charity of your choice.
