On behalf of the many people working and those who used to work at the City of Toronto that knew and very much appreciated Chris, I would like to express our heart-felt sympathies to Chris’s extensive family and friends. He was a gentle, respectful and committed public servant and a valued expert in our museums and heritage services section for over 33 years. Many aspects of our collections and displays have featured Chris’s deft touch. The celebration and understanding of Toronto’s heritage have greatly benefited from his work. Thank you Chris.

I first met Chris in 1989 when we both started at roughly the same time with the Toronto Historical Board. We were both on the work baseball team. Chris was a good first baseman. Lets face it, you had little excuse to overthrow him. I knew and worked with him for 30 years. He sat beside me when we received our 25 year watch from the city. He was a kind man. My deepest sympathy to his family.
Dodi, Camille & Lucas,
I was so sad to hear that Chris passed away. I am thinking about you guys during this very very sad and difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Sending lots of love and virtual hugs.
Dear Doriana, I can’t express how sad I am to hear of Chris’ passing. So many years of knowing him now seem like far too few. We will keep you all in our prayers. Deepest condolences to you and your family from me and mine.

My heartfelt sympathy to you and your family. I am so sorry to learn about the passing of Chris. Thinking of you all during this very difficult time with much love in my our heart.
It’s with great sadness that we heard of Chris’s passing.
Both Bridget and I met Chris when he worked at Fort York during the summer archaeology programme back in the early 1990’s. I spent time with Chris when he worked on exhibit development with the Toronto Historical Board, and later with the City of Toronto. Chris was always professional in his work, yet easy going, humorous and great to work with. I will miss our talks and his friendship.
We send our deepest condolences to you and your family.
This is a true loss – he was smart, loving, funny – Jillian and Mary remember him from when she was growing up and how ‘you’re Chris Baker’s cousin’ made life easier at OTHS, Jane from years of family group gettogethers for the Bakers. Condolences and love!
I’m so very sad to hear this news. Chris and I shared many adventures during our years at Algonquin College. He is thought of often and fondly. My deepest condolences to Doriana and the children, who I’m sorry to say I’ve not met, and to Adrian Baker. He was a true friend.
Dear Doriana,
I am so sorry for your loss.
May care and love of those around you provide comfort and peace to get you through the days ahead. My most sincere condolences.
I am so, so saddened to hear about Chris’s passing and send my deepest condolences to his family and friends. Like others in the messages above, I worked with Chris at the Museums. He was always so kind and funny, a breath of fresh air when he’d come into the office. He was a real treat to work with. He helped me on so many occasions, I can’t even count them all. He was just who you relied on to make deadlines and provide expertise and guidance. I will always remember a little thing he did for me. I was working on an old exhibit panel that still used Velcro to affix the pictures to the panels. I said to him in passing I wish I had some Velcro to fix this. The next day an envelope of Velcro pieces was on my desk. It was everything I needed to create the display. I can’t even imagine how hard this must be for Doriana, the children and family and friends. I’m so sorry for your loss and hope your happy memories can bring you peace.
Kim, thank you so much for sharing your memories of Chris with us. They are so comforting now & am sure in time to come!
Dear Doriana,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. My deepest sympathies go out to you and to your family.
Dodi, Camille and Lucas, Amber and I, Raymond, Colby and Veronica all send our heartfelt condolences for your devastating loss. We are so sorry and saddened to hear this terrible and shocking news. I’m doubly sorry we cannot even see you all this summer. Know that you are in our thoughts, and we will see you again soon in our little slice of paradise up north!
Although it’s far too soon and he’s far too young, I’m sure that Chris leaves us with the comfort that you all have each other, and he will live on through each of you. You are a beautiful family. It was our absolute pleasure to know Chris and to continue knowing each of you.
Sincerely, Howard and family
Dear Doriana,
I’m incredibly sorry to here of your loss. Chris gave me my first job in the heritage industry and was my mentor and friend. I use to joke with him that he should sell me his Carmen Ghia because he was too tall for it! I’ll never forget his kindness and charisma and he will live on in the hearts and minds off all those who are blessed to know him. I look forward to meeting him again in a better place.
My deepest condolences to you and your family.
Dear Doriana
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I worked with Chris for 30 years. He was such a calm and fun co-worker. He had such a great sense of humour. I am honoured to have worked with such a wonderful guy. Our work family will miss him terribly. I send you condolences and wish you strength during this difficult time.
So sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences to you and your family. God bless.
Dear Doriana
I am so shocked and sorry to hear of Chris’ passing. I remember Chris well from my days with THB and then Heritage Toronto. I specifically remember his dry sense of humour and his smile. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. I hope that your happy and loving memories will help to ease your pain eventually.
I am so sorry to here about Chris. I worked with him years ago. When I think of those days it brings a smile to my face. Chris was always fun to be around. I remember when he met you Doriana 🙂 My deepest sympathies to you and your family.
I was saddened to learn of Chris’s death. As his HS History teacher I remember fondly his intelligence, his wry wit, his self-deprecating manner. He was one of those students a teacher delights in having in the classroom. My sympathies to his family and all those who loved him.
Bill Cox
Thanks so much for your kind words, Bill. I’m sure you were influencial in his choice of career, which brought him so much satisfaction. Next time you’re in Toronto check out Spadina House — he oversaw the renovations.
Gloria Baker
As Chris’ sister I would like to thank everyone for their kind words of condolence. Sharing your memories of Chris is such a joy to our hearts & a blessing in our grief. Knowing he is so fondly remembered by so many is a wonderful comfort to all who cherished him.
Again, thank you all.
My deepest sympathies to you and your family. A donation to the Canadian Cancer Society will be made in Chris’ name.
I just learned that Chris had died from the Trent university magazine. I remember him fondly from my days at Trent University. He was an excellent character. Very funny and so kind. We were good friends at the time but lost touch a few years after our Trent days. He tried to teach me how to drive standard! His description in the obituary was so nice and sounded so much the Chris I knew, so long ago. Deepest condolences to his family for loosing him too early. Also cheers to a life well lived.
