It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Conrad, who died of natural causes on Monday, August 11, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 71. Conrad was the eldest son of Dudley Abraham and the late Thelma Abraham (nee Crooks), the proud father of Nicola, Charmaine and Raymond and the cherished brother of Kevin, Christine Clutterbuck (George), and Carolyn (Stephen Rouse).
elevated Hxz8V Born in Mumbai on December 24, 1953, Conrad was a Christmas Eve baby – instantly adored as a precious gift, especially as the first grandchild of the late Frederick and Gladys Crooks, and the second for Albert and Ena Abraham. Conrad once described feeling like “a little prince” in his early Bombay childhood, treated to beach trips and donkey rides, chauffeured and showered with love and attention.
elevated Hxz8V Conrad was five when he and his family emigrated to England in 1958. Despite the drastically different climate and culture, Conrad adapted with flair. He became an avid member of the Boy Scouts, and a driven athlete who played football (soccer) and basketball. By the time he finished primary school at St. Michael’s and St. Martin’s and graduated from Archbishop Myer Secondary School, he was well-loved by a wide circle of many friends.
elevated Hxz8V Conrad initially launched his career in banking, but he went into real estate after moving to Canada in 1972. Yet while Con left England, England never really left him. He would remain a true Brit to his core, a lover of Monty Python, Chaucer, Chelsea F.C., bitters, pints, fish and chips and pickled onions (the big ones). In 1973, he married Betty Brown, his teenage love from London. They welcomed three beautiful children within the next decade, making homes for themselves in the Mississauga area and the Niagara region, where Conrad became an award-winning real estate agent. Their St. Catharines, Ontario home was the hub of countless family gatherings, birthdays, anniversaries, weekend card games, board games and Christmases. Sadly, in the mid-1980s, in the midst of his golden prime, Conrad was diagnosed with schizophrenia. It cost him dearly: his children, his marriage, his home and his career. Years of struggle followed, beset by hospital stays, impulsive globetrotting, medication trials and too few merciful stretches of stability – made worse when the stigma of mental illness stoked misinformation and fear.
elevated Hxz8V But Conrad was the bravest of hearts. Against the odds, he built a peaceful life for himself in recent years. He reunited with his devoted daughter Charmaine, and her sons, his grandsons, Callum and Ashton, and filled his days with family, friends and hobbies, collecting old movies, model schooners, vintage jewelry, playing pool and hosting poker nights.
elevated Hxz8V Despite his diagnosis, mental illness never defined him. Con had a magnificent mind, a remarkable memory and a lifelong thirst for knowledge, whether it involved history, science, or James Bond trivia. Aside from the community pool where he regularly swam, the library was one of his favourite destinations. Staff there were so charmed by his curiosity they gifted Conrad a complete set of Encyclopedia Britannica. He also had a passionate artistic soul. He was a talented sketch artist, writer and lover of music, opera, bird watching, Japanese gardens and kites.
elevated Hxz8V In spite of his own modest circumstances, Conrad’s generosity was boundless. He gave to the homeless whatever change jangled in his pocket. He never missed a birthday with a phone call or card, or to lend an ear when you needed one, or an opportunity to laugh together – in the way that only Conrad did – a big, rich, hearty laugh that enticed everyone to laugh along with him. He was one of a kind, charming, clever, loving, charismatic and utterly unforgettable.
elevated Hxz8V Conrad leaves behind an extensive legacy of seven grandchildren: Kayleigh, Lauren, Callum, Ashton, Shaney, Cayden, and Harvey; and four great-grandchildren: Huxley, Cade, Macie, and Romie. Conrad will be sorely missed by his nieces and nephews: Candice (Tom), Shayna (Mark), Kari (Jon), Christopher, Katelyn (Danny), Godson Jared, Jade and Jackson; and his great-nieces and nephews: Easton, Rhys, Eve, Adrian, Jayce and Anaia.
elevated Hxz8V May you rest in peace at last, our darling Conrad, in the heavenly arms of Mum and all those who went before and loved you so well – as we did and always will.
elevated Hxz8V In lieu of flowers, donations in Conrad’s name to St. Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army would be much appreciated as an expression of sympathy.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Conrad’s passing.
There was so much to love and admire about him. His calm and gentle voice, his magnificent mind and remarkable memory, his deep wisdom, and the way he listened with full presence and care. He had a warmth that enveloped you, a truly generous heart, and those signature warm embraces that made you feel seen and loved. His charm was effortless, his charisma undeniable, and his distinct, joyful laugh was unforgettable. A sound that stays with you.
Conrad had a deep appreciation for family, including a special love for my late mother, which touched me profoundly. He was unique, insightful, and passionate about life. It’s no wonder he was a favourite of our late Nana, who loved him so dearly that she changed her birthdate to coincide with his and Christmas Eve, when we traditionally gathered to celebrate the birth of Jesus at Midnight Mass.
May he rest in eternal peace, wrapped in the love of our Blessed Mother Mary and reunited with those who loved him so well.
