It is with heavy hearts and a profound sense of loss we announce the peaceful passing of Danielle Fuochi Switzer on December 13, 2024, at the age of 73. Born on May 18, 1951 in Salsomaggiore, Italy to parents Mario & Anna. Loving wife of Brian. Beloved mother of Marc (Beth) and Emily (Nik). Proud Grandmother of Ella, Charlotte and Ivy. Caring sister of Robert and Andre (Mary). Adored aunt of Nathan and Anna. Danielle will be sadly missed and held dear in the hearts of her many extended family and friends. She will be always remembered and never forgotten. She knows now that “God is the love that moves the sun and stars.”

I loved having Danielle in our reading group with her good -natured feistiness, forthrightness, and humour. I will miss her here and yet she is still with us somehow, with the love Dante describes.

I am so sorry to hear of Danielle’s passing. I have worked with her for many many years and she was such a wonderful person and great to work with. She had the most wonderful sense of humor. I worked with Danielle at Legal Aid, when we were at Centre Street and she was one of the Staff Lawyers. Danielle often spoke of her kids and was fiercely proud of them. Danielle had the best sense of humour , and really loved her job and helping the public. She was loved by all that knew her at LAO. I am so saddened to hear of her passing. May she rest easy and know that she left an imprint on so many hearts. God bless you Danielle.
Danielle was a true leader at LAO, a dedicated mentor, and a treasured friend. Her intelligence, sharp wit, and incredible sense of humor made her one of a kind. She approached everything with compassion, brilliance, and unwavering commitment, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives. Her wisdom, guidance, and humor will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on in our hearts and minds.
Danielle was always dedicated to helping people who were less fortunate, and she worked for decades at Legal Aid Ontario to do this. She was always ready to lend a helping hand and will be very much missed. Safe travels, old friend.
I am deeply shocked and saddened by this news, and offer my sincere condolences to her loved ones.
Danielle, for many years, was a friend as well as a work colleague and her kindness, candor and self depreciating humour make it a true blessing to have known her.
To imagine a world without this Energizer bunny in human form is almost impossible, and she will always have a place in my heart.

We were very saddened by the news of Danielle’s passing. We knew Danielle from Legal Aid, where she with always acted honesty, intelligence, kindness and humor. She was a brilliant mediator and those of us who stayed on in mediation missed her greatly when she moved on to criminal case management. Our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time.
You will be missed! I have such fond memories of going out for lunch with you and my Mom (Mary Ewart) at Legal Aid when I was at UofT. I will always remember your laugh and smiling face. And for all the baby items passed down when David was born.

Such sad news. I had the pleasure of working with Danielle many years ago at the Etobicoke Legal Aid office where she would come work as acting director and for settlement conferences as well as area Committee appeals. She was a joy to work with, always smiling and laughing and offering help anyway she could. My deepest condolences go out to her entire family during this difficult time.

I’m so so sorry to hear this; Danielle was such a wonderful person to work with. I haven’t seen her in ages, but I have so many fond memories of her running LAO conferences, and she was sharp, solution oriented, and infinitely good humoured. I will miss her very much, and send love to her family.
Dear family of Danielle:
I am gutted by this news. I’d known Danielle for over thirty years. We were long time Legal Aid Ontario colleagues and I valued her advice and friendship over my many years of association with her. Danielle had an ineffable charm and was in all ways just a delightful human being. What a terrible loss for your family, especially at Christmas. My deepest condolences and may light perpetual shine upon her.
When I first met Danielle, it was when she was, very reluctantly, applying for a job at Legal Aid. Very luckily for me, she took it when it was offered, and for years we considered ourselves fortunate for being paid for having such a good time working together.
I consider her my fourth sister, and I will miss her so very much.

Danielle was a mentor, teacher and friend. She was so dedicated and passionate, it was a joy to work with and get to know her. She was truly defined as ‘one of a kind’. She shaped my career and life in a lot of ways, and I will be forever thankful to her. I think a lot of us will strive to meet the example she set, and I am beyond grateful for the time I knew her.

Danielle was such a wonderful, warm, and compassionate presence. She was truly a delight to work with and a lovely and caring human being.
I had the great pleasure of working with Danielle for over three decades and will always cherish those memories. She accomplished much and was admired and respected by all. I marveled at how she could carry on multiple conversations at once. Nobody could have a conversation with her without smiling, laughing or both. The office was far too quiet when she was away and sprang back to life on her return. Truly a unique and wonderful person.

I was very saddened by this news and truly feel that we have lost a bright light.

In the few years I had the pleasure of knowing Danielle, a few things were clear from the beginning: her deep knowledge and love for the law and the respect she had among her colleagues. My deepest condolences to Danielle’s family and loved ones. I have had the pleasure of working with Danielle for over 14 years at LAO. Anyone that knew Danielle knew her dedication and passion for criminal law. I could always ask a million questions and she had no issues answering them. She was humorous and never failed to make me laugh daily. Danielle you will be missed terribly. Until we meet again
Danielle was a friend and colleague for close to 40 years and she never failed to bring a smile to my face.
Danielle was kind, highly intelligent and unpretentious. She possessed so many positive attributes it is impossible to name them all here. I will say though that as many will remember, she had an impossibly quick wit.
I will fondly remember our time at 70 Centre, sharing stories and updates over coffee. She would delight us with the the daily antics of ‘the boy’ and ‘the girl’. We would pass around the daily crossword and Danielle would always manage to come up with the word that had stumped the rest of us.
As time flew by, our positions changed and in passing Danielle always took time for a quick chat and to ask about my life and my family. She never forgot even the smallest details.
Recently we caught up over zoom and it was like going back in time to those good old days at 70 centre. I feel lucky to have shared a small place in Danielle’s life for she truly was one of a kind. She will be missed.

I had the pleasure of working with Danielle at Legal Aid years ago. Danielle was a remarkable woman who was admired and respected by all us who had the pleasure of working with her. She had an infectious laugh and was a kind and generous soul. Danielle cared deeply about her work and serving the most marginalized members of the community throughout her career as a lawyer. She will be deeply missed. My deepest condolences to her family and all who loved her.
I was very sad to hear about Danielle’s passing. I first met Danielle when I was doing my criminal articles and then got to know her when I was working as a duty counsel, after my call. When I returned to legal aid when the Refugee Law Office started, it was comforting to reconnect with a welcoming familiar face. I will remember her for her dedication to her work and her compassion and ceaseless efforts to help those needing legal aid, and, of course, her upbeat, unflustered demeanor.

I worked at Legal Aid but in a regional office so would cross paths with Danielle when I’d be in the Provincial Office. It was my practice when I was in Toronto to go for walk abouts to say hello to people I knew and it was always such a treat when I crossed paths with Danielle. She always had a smile that reached her eyes and made time for a chat with me. I am so sorry for your loss and send you my deepest condolences.
So saddened to hear of Danielle’s death. I had the privilege of working with her in the Toronto Legal Aid Office where my office was two doors down from hers. She was a multitasking whirling dervish and force to be reckoned with both inside and outside the courtroom.
As you can tell from all the comments we had so much fun working with Danielle and my heart goes out to Brian, Marc, Emily and their the entire family.
I share many of the same memories of Danielle that have already been expressed. The last time we saw each other was at a CLA Fall Conference, one or two years ago. As usual, she would take the time to delve into what was happening in the defence bar and show up to have a few laughs with the young and old timers. She had a real goodness to her and I know she will have a favourable journey ahead, being propelled by all the good karma she built up in her karma account. God speed, dear friend.
