However, as fate would have it while spending time in the Mackenzie Hospital for injuries acquired during the accident, he met a beautiful and intelligent young nurse, who he just had to make his wife. Derrick and Claudia were married on the 27th of September 1975 in Guyana and have remained husband and wife for forty-four years. Their union blessed them with two beautiful children who loved their father dearly. Derrick was a brave adventurer, where at the young age of twenty-three, he left his beloved home for a life filled with opportunity in Canada. Upon arriving he studied hard at Ryerson Polytechnic Institute before working as a millwright for over twenty years.

Derrick lived life to the fullest, making friends with everyone that he met. He would walk around the neighbourhood without stopping to talk with friends. In a single day of catching up with friends, Derrick would be strengthening connections with people in Canada, United States, England, Guyana, Jamaica, India, and Barbados, just to name a few. He carried with him an essence of dedication and strength as he battled many illnesses, never forgetting to make everyone feel safe. Derrick was a devout Catholic who always cared for his family and friends.

elevated SlmxO In between cooking his hometown favourites cook up rice, pepper pot, and curry, and looking through endless albums of moments he captured, he would always play the best music from all around the world, continuously adding to his record collection, making sure to have something for everyone. Derrick, a true entertainer at heart, made it his mission to make everyone around him smile, and he cared for his family and friends as he was only a phone call away.
