It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Domenico, just shy of his 103rd birthday. Beloved husband of the late Emma for 69 years and loving father of Rina (the late Sal), Nadia (Ralf) and Cesare (Adriana). Cherished Nonno of Stefanie, Daniella (Domenic), Samantha, Justin, Domenico and Marisa. Domenico was blessed to be a Bisnonno to Emilia and Gabriel. He is predeceased by his sisters Maria (the late Eliseo), Berardina (the late Attilio) and Flavia (the late Francesco), his brother Marsilio (the late Palma) and his sister in-law Lucia (the late Fernando). He is survived by his in-laws Iride (the late Olimpio), Carlo (Clara), Pina (Giuseppe), Virgilio (Lida) and Matilde (the late Enzo).
Domenico was born in the small mountain town of Trisungo, Le Marche. He enlisted to serve in World War II when he was 18 where he became a prisoner of war. Shortly after the war, in 1952, he made the decision to emigrate to Canada alone. After docking in Halifax, he worked his way from Ottawa to Toronto, overcoming the unknowns of a foreign country. Through determination and hardwork, he created a life for not only his future wife Emma but also helped multiple other families and friends start their new life in Canada.
He was a devoted father to his children, ensuring they had everything they needed, no matter the sacrifice. Domenico became known for his magnificent garden, having a passion for growing fruits and vegetables to be shared with family and friends. His other loves include playing bocce and cards and being able to fix anything with only the items found in his shed.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Margaret Bahen Hospice and Southlake Hospital for their loving and compassionate care.
Domenico will be deeply missed by his family and friends in both Canada and Italy, who will forever cherish the many memories shared with him. We are grateful for the time we had with Domenico and while we mourn his passing, we find comfort in knowing he is now reunited with the love of his life, Emma.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Margaret Bahen Hospice.
