Obituary

elevated W9dUw Loving wife to Vincenzo (1933-1996), devoted mother to Vince and Joe, cherished mother-in-law to Janice and Susan, beloved grandmother to Samantha, Olivia, and Anthony. In the brief hours of her passing, the universal theme of gentleness and kindness was echoed in the many condolences received. Doreen was that and much more. The only daughter of Robert Kinnaird and Catherine Kinnaird (nee Mahoney), she arrived into this world on February 5, 1933.  Her brother, Robert “Bob” (1939-2001), soon followed. A proud Toronto woman, she entered the workforce at a wholesale grocer where she met Vincenzo, a customer, who had arrived in Canada with his family only a few years earlier to begin a new life and destiny for the Saccucci family. She raised two sons and spent many hours in cold hockey arenas. The family business was grocery and the work hours required did not always allow Vincenzo to be at the games and practices.  However, these events were never missed as Doreen made sure the boys would always get to the game.

elevated W9dUw As the years passed, with the guidance of Doreen and Vincenzo, the boys became men, married, became fathers, and through Doreen and Vincenzo’s guidance became the men they are today who live each day in wishful pursuit of their example. There is no greater joy to be seen than in the eyes of a grandmother looking at her grandchild. Doreen had a special relationship with each of her grandchildren that continued well into their adulthood. An active grandmother while they were young from attending recitals and games to spending days together after school, she became the best movie partner, dinner and tea companion, and confidant.

elevated W9dUw Vincenzo passed away in 1996 and only earlier last month she recognized their 61st wedding anniversary. While she was without her dearly missed husband for many years she was never alone and surrounded herself with loving family and friends. Not only a wife, mother, and grandmother, she leaves behind a legacy as a special sister-in-law, a beloved aunt, godmother, and a dear friend to so many throughout her life from her work to her euchre group. More so than all of her roles, she was a woman who meant so much to so many.

elevated W9dUw Her passing was sudden and a shock in which there is blessing as she was without pain or long illness. She passed as she had wished; with the grace and dignity that defined her life. A life lived and ended on her terms. While her passing leaves a void, the love and legacy she leaves behind fills our hearts.

elevated W9dUw In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that you make a donation to a charity of your choice so that your kindness in her memory can spread to as many as possible.
