elevated VdxSa Longtime Port Colborne Physician and Community Caregiver 

elevated VdxSa Enrique Gomez Antelo, MD (Emeritus) passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, in his 92nd year. 

elevated VdxSa He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Carole, and his children Enrique (Ann), Leandro (Alison), and Milagro (George). He will be lovingly remembered as Papa by his seven grandchildren: Christopher, Taylor, Michael, Daniel, Kyle, Logan, and Elena. 

elevated VdxSa Early Life and Education 

elevated VdxSa Enrique was born in Granada, Spain, the only child of Enrique Gomez Bueno and Matilde Antelo Mauzaisse. A gifted student, he graduated from the University of Granada Faculty of Medicine at age 23 while serving as a Sub-Lieutenant in the Spanish military. 

elevated VdxSa In 1963 he was awarded the prestigious Senator Fulbright Scholarship, which brought him to the United States for medical training. He completed his internship at Bergen Pines County Hospital in New Jersey, a residency in Pathology at Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital in Philadelphia, and a residency in Internal Medicine at Grace Hospital in Detroit. 

elevated VdxSa While living in Detroit he met Carole, who worked at Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical Company. They married in Windsor, Ontario in 1968. 

elevated VdxSa After completing further training in Endocrinology and Internal Medicine at Ottawa Civic Hospital, the couple settled in Port Colborne on the shores of Lake Erie, where they raised their family and became deeply rooted in the community. 

elevated VdxSa Medical Career 

elevated VdxSa Dr. Gomez began practicing medicine in Port Colborne in 1971, joining a clinic on the east side of the city. Over an extraordinary 60-year career, he cared for generations of patients throughout the Niagara region. 

elevated VdxSa He practiced 46 years in his Port Colborne clinic and served 31 years as Medical Director of Northland Manor/Northland Pointe Nursing Home. He often said being a family physician never felt like work because he loved caring for people. Patients knew him as a compassionate doctor who always took the time to listen. 

elevated VdxSa His lifelong dedication to medicine and public service was recognized when he was granted Emeritus status by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. 

elevated VdxSa Personal Life and Interests 

elevated VdxSa Outside of medicine, Enrique enjoyed life’s simple pleasures: sharing good wine, savouring authentic paella, an extra slice of birthday cake, reading, and playing poker with friends and colleagues.   

elevated VdxSa Enrique was also a man of faith, and he was a long-time member of St. Therese of Lisieux Parish in Port Colborne and St. Luke’s Parish in Thornhill, Ontario. 

elevated VdxSa Above all, he was devoted to his family and took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. His humour, and quiet strength will be deeply missed.

elevated VdxSa In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to a local healthcare charity or an organization supporting seniors’ care in the Niagara region. 

elevated VdxSa A private funeral service was held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Thornhill on March 14, 2026.
