elevated Jg5VJ Listening to the dulcet tones of Dean Martin, Eileen passed away at home with her daughters close by, a week after suffering a severe hemorrhagic stroke. She goes now to join her beloved husband of 53 years, Eardley, less than 6 months after his own passing. She was the most loving mother of Tanya (Tony) and Marissa, cherished nana of Natasha and Elara, and adored godmother of Sally and Clayton.
elevated Jg5VJ She is pre-deceased by parents, James and Blossom Peters, and by brothers, Eric and Arthur.
elevated Jg5VJ Born in Bombay, Eileen spent her childhood and many vacations and holidays in her treasured Burhanpur on her family farm. Eileen loved activity – games like tennikoit, rounders, and netball, and long walks to the hills — and she loved animals and people alike. She was educated at St. Joseph’s Convent in Bandra where she met many close and lifelong friends. Upon graduation, she attended courses at the YWCA and learned the skills she needed to be a secretary. She worked in Calcutta for British and American multinationals before moving to Canada in 1965 where she started working as a legal secretary and then later as a finance officer for the Ontario Government. Eileen adored parties and dances, the movies and the theatre. She loved to dance, and she also had a wonderful voice and enjoyed a good singsong. Eileen was very well-traveled too. Her favourite vacations were spent on safari in Africa or visiting friends and family.
elevated Jg5VJ Everyone who knew Eileen adored her. She was a very sweet, kind, and gentle person who never had an ill thing to say about anyone. She was always smiling and carried such a positive energy and outlook on life. She will be so very missed, but never ever forgotten.

Tanya and Marissa: I am so sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. I remember her well on Derry Road when she would be leaving for work to travel to downtown Toronto, coming home in the evenings and getting the next day’s dinner ready the night before … that has always impressed me. She was always a sweet natured lady with a beautiful smile. I know she loved her girls dearly. Bless you much Tanya and Marissa. Lynnda

Eileen was the last link our family had to Burhanpur and on her visits to us loved listening to her stories from her childhood there. Will remember her has a kind, caring and generous soul. May all the wonderful memories you have of her give you strength and peace.

We are so very sorry for your loss.
Eileen was just a very special person. Much like her dear mum, our lovely Auntie Blossie!
Her gentle, kind and loving ways were most endearing. Always a smile on her face that wrapped you with the warmth of nothing but pure love. She like her mum had a wonderful connection with nature and animals and we were always enthralled by her stories of her days in Burhanpur.
We are so glad that on what may have been her last overseas trip, we had the pleasure of having her stay again in our home in Auckland. She will always have a special place in our hearts.

Dear Marissa, Tanya, Tony, Natasha, and Elara,
My condolences on the passing of Dear Eileen. For me, she was originally a colleague in the Ministry of Citizenship and Culture in the early 1980s and soon a lifelong friend from that time on.
Eileen coordinated the administration of the grants in the Literacy Section and was the person many people turned to for a sympathetic lesson on how to meet the various bureaucratic guidelines! She helped people in most of the over 300 organizations working in literacy and basic skills, including those in colleges, school boards, and community literacy – English, French, and Native programs, as well as those for people who were Deaf, and workplace programs, in rural and urban centres. She always made it her job, even if it meant working long hours when grants were going out in the summer, to ensure everyone got their cheques in time for their programs starting in September. I think everyone who ever dealt with Eileen found her not only professional and highly competent, but also the most helpful of people. Everybody who ever crossed paths with Eileen, both inside and outside Government, loved her!
I also knew her as the friend who gave me a bed in Toronto for years when I visited from eastern Ontario after I moved there to help my elderly parents, the person who organized my retirement party in the government, the person I took to Stratford sometimes for musicals and theatre, and the person I met with for lunch and dinner, often at Swiss Chalet, to commiserate with and share what was happening in our lives. And Eardley, much more reserved, but with a quiet humour, was often with us too. Eileen was a true friend in every sense of the word, both to me and a plethora of other people!
She was a joyful person, who loved music, for listening or dancing, and met the world head on, always with a positive outlook. If she did not have something kind to say of people, she said nothing. I think she brought out the best in everyone who ever came in touch with her. I always wondered if her youthful joy was what made her always look about 15 years younger than she was, just as she does in the picture with the obituary!
I loved Eileen as one of the most empathetic and sweetest people in this World. If anyone could qualify as a true example of Christianity, Eileen for me was that person.
The other thing that stands out for me was her love of family. I enjoyed listening to her memories of her mother and father in India, meeting many of the extended family and in-laws in Canada, and most of all the love and pride she had for both her daughters, her two granddaughters, and her son-in-law. And of course, Dear Eardley.
I will miss Eileen, but I will never forget her for a moment.

We had the pleasure of getting to know your mom these past months and truly enjoyed her warm, positive spirit and the time we spent with her. Deepest sympathies to you during this difficult time.
So sorry for your loss, we only knew your Mum for a short time. She was a very sweet lovely lady.

Eileen was very dear to me she was so beautiful inside and out. I always called her Cleopatra and she called me Normie. She’s with her soulmate now
