elevated oJLRR Obituary
It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Eric Mullaney, who died on Sunday November 9th, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
elevated oJLRR Born in Liverpool, England, Eric grew up at St. Edward’s Orphanage alongside his twin brother, Alan, and their many brothers and sisters. It was here that he developed his strong faith in God, a faith that never left him. In the 1960s, he served proudly as an army driver with the Royal Army Service corps in Germany during the time the Berlin Wall went up. He had many a story to share from his youth, filled with humour and fond memories. In 1968, Eric immigrated to Canada to begin a new chapter of his life. Just three years later, in 1971, he met the love of his life, Veronica, at a dance at the Maple Leaf Ballroom. They married in 1972 and shared over fifty years together filled with laughter, partnership, and unwavering love. Together they raised three children — Margaret, Eric, and Angela — who were the pride and joy of his life. He was also a devoted and much-loved grandad to Rachel, Saoirse, Patrick, and Ciaran. Losing his beloved son Eric in 2023 was one of the greatest heartbreaks of his life, and Eric carried that loss with strength, grace, and love. We take comfort in knowing they are now together again. Eric will be remembered for his warmth, wit, quiet strength, and generous heart. His stories, his laughter, and his steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind his cherished wife Veronica, daughters Margaret (and husband Glen) and Angela (and husband Aidan), and grandchildren Rachel, Saoirse, Patrick, and Ciaran; his sister Marie, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family in both Canada, Ireland and the UK.
elevated oJLRR The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at Sunnybrook Palliative Care for their exceptional care and kindness during his final days.
elevated oJLRR Visitation will be held at St. Edward the Confessor Parish, 75 Churchill Avenue, North York, on Friday November 14th from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., to be followed by a mass at 11:45 a.m.. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 8361 Yonge St., Thornhill, ON. A reception will follow at Holy Cross.
elevated oJLRR Donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Sunnybrook Foundation, in his memory. Forever loved, forever remembered.

To the Mullaney family, our hearts break for you. Our mother knew your family well as your daughter Angela’s Guiding leader for many years. May your memories deliver you comfort throughout your grief.
Dearest Margaret, Glen and Rachel, we are so sorry to hear of your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Losing your Dad (father-in-law, grampa) must be so hard. Be kind and gentle with yourselves during this difficult time. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help. Lots of love, Shelly &Silver Kuris xoxoxo.
Dear Vera, Margaret, Angela and families
I am so sorry for your loss. Uncle Eric was a gem. Always a smile, a joke, or a kind word.
This world was so fortunate to know him.
I am sending you so much love.
So very sad to hear of Eric’s passing. He was a lovely, kind, and funny man. He and Vera welcomed me warmly whenever I was fortunate enough to visit. I shall always remember him with a smile Condolences to Vera and all the family.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. May all the many great memories shared bring you comfort at this time. May he Rest In Peace now.
We were deeply saddened to hear of Eric’s passing. Our family first met Eric many, many years ago when our Dad, Eddy met him at the Irish Club. Eric had just arrived from Liverpool and, was looking for a place to stay – that’s all Dad needed to hear, Eric became an instant member of the Murphy Family!
We will always remember his big smile, his wonderful stories, and the warmth he brought to every room. Having grown up in an orphanage with his brothers and sisters, Eric carried a deep sense of resilience and compassion that touched everyone he met. His faith was an important part of his life — a steady source of strength and comfort that carried him through both good times and hardship.
We’ll forever picture him as the joyful leprechaun in Toronto’s St. Patrick’s Day parade — spreading laughter, light, and Irish cheer to all who saw him.
Our hearts go out to his family, especially Vera, as they mourn both Eric and his beloved son, Eric Jr., who passed away in 2023. May they rest together in peace, their faith and love living on in the hearts of all who knew them.
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
— Psalm 23:6
With love and deepest sympathy,
Eddy Murphy Family

Dear Vera, Margaret, Angela and families,
So very saddened to hear of the passing of Eric Sr., your dear sweet husband, father and grandfather. I will always picture him with the tea towel over his arm serving my mom tea and will always cherish the wonderful friendship you shared as neighbours. His kindness made a difference in the world. Sincerest condolences to all of you.
