It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ernesto Cannarile.
God called Ernesto home on Sunday, June 28, 2026. He passed away peacefully at the age of 95, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on May 21, 1931, in Santo Ippolito, Cosenza, Italy, Ernesto was the beloved son of his late parents Leonardo and Teresa. He is now reunited in eternal peace with his parents, all of his siblings, and his beloved son-in-law, Gerry.
In search of a better future, Ernesto immigrated to Canada on January 21, 1959. Through hard work, determination, and perseverance, he built a life filled with purpose, love, and family. In 1964, he met the love of his life, Vittoria. Just six months later they were married, beginning a beautiful marriage that would span decades and create a loving family.
Ernesto was the devoted husband of Vittoria, loving father of Leo (Dona), Anna (late Gerry), and Sandra (Sal), and a proud and cherished Nonno to Leonardo (Erica), Alessia (Connor), Giovanni (Natalie), Isabella (Daniel), Gabriella, and Giulianna.
Ernesto’s legacy is one of strength, kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family. He was a hardworking man who never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures—watching soccer and other sports, tending to his beautiful summer garden, making homemade soppressata, and carrying on the cherished tradition of making tomato sauce each year. These moments brought family together and created memories that will be treasured for generations.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his extended family and many friends in both Canada and Italy. Though he is no longer with us, his values, traditions, work ethic, and love for family will live on through his children, grandchildren, and all those whose lives he touched.
The family invites you to share your cherished memories and condolences on the tribute wall of this website.
May Ernesto find eternal rest and peace.

Dear beautiful cousins,
I’m so sorry for your great loss. May Ernesto rest in the peace of the angels, HAPPILY welcomed HOME by the loved ones who passed before him.
I remember Ernesto’s calm, caring ways. While your social mom laughed and joked, he was always steady and present. What a beautiful love they shared! What a dedicated father and husband he was, and what great loving children you were to him, Sandra, Anna and Leo … our parents were very close and they spoke highly of each other. They enjoyed each other’s company and we shared many memories. May the happy memories of your beloved Ernesto make you smile often and bring comforting solace.
My sympathies go out to Vittoria, his cherished grandchildren, and to ALL those who now feel Ernesto’s loss.
Safe journey HOME, Ernesto. Job well done! 🕊️💫
Sincere condolences,
Gloria Longo ❤️
It is with sadness that we send our condolences to the whole family,
especially Anna and Giovanni (who is engaged to our granddaughter, Natalie). May God grant all of you peace to know that he is in a better place and enjoying watching sports with Giovanni’s father (both in the joy of heaven. ). Our prayers are with all of you.
