elevated pb6aC Eulogy of Fenia Ciccone (nee Celli):

Fenia Ciccone. Known as Fanny to everyone, and Nonna Fanny to a lucky 8. She was sharp, strong, strict and loved her children and grandchildren fiercely. And we love her back just as much. Yelling was her love language, and she called herself “il comandante”. Her house was her posto and her commands were given for two reasons: order and love. Her house needed to be in order and it seemed to pain her physically when the grass was too long or the carpet needed vacuuming. In the same way, she needed her family in order. Leaving her family behind in Italy to make a new life here was the hardest thing she ever did, and she lamented as her kids and grandkids travelled and moved away, knowing the value of a family that stays together. But she also understood, on some level, because one of her greatest gifts to us all was her fighter spirit, and we’re blessed to mirror her independence, her courage and her pursuit of excellence in the details of life. We’ll honour you Nonna, by eating well, staying together, supporting each other, and arguing loudly enough for you to hear us in heaven. Thank you for being here for so long. We’ll miss your steady, steely, loving presence in our lives always. Ti vogliamo tanto bene. Riposa in pace.
