elevated bB4oe Obituary

elevated bB4oe Belvedere, Ioppolo Calabro, Filippa

elevated bB4oe Filippa (Pina) peacefully passed away on September 26, 2018 at the age of 84. Caring and devoted mother of Elizabeth (Frank), Daniela (Nino) and Mark (Diane), she was pre-deceased by their father Romualdo.  She was the proud and cherished Nonna of Marco, Domenic, Francesco, Gabrielle and John.  Pina is now reunited with her parents and sisters, for whom she cared deeply and will be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews in Italy and the USA. Born in Catania, Pina was raised by her widowed mom and sisters in Rome and Trento.  She left her career and single life behind when she immigrated to New York and later married Romualdo in 1968. She quickly took on the role of mother and homemaker, which lead her to Toronto as the result of her husband’s career. She cultivated few but enduring friendships which she cherished.   An avid reader, she always found the time to express her love for music, fashion, literature, art and architecture. She enjoyed singing out loud, playing briscola, and socializing. Newly independent in the late 90’s, mom took on the role of caregiver and companion to her dear sister Graziella in Rome and spent a number of years travelling back and forth. The arrival of her grandchildren brought her much joy and she relished the time spent with them to her final days. Her resilience tested at various times in her life, she persevered in the knowledge that she was loved unconditionally by her family and this love was duly reciprocated.  She never lost her faith or her sense of humour in the face of many struggles.  We would like to thank the PSW’s and nurses at Pine Grove Chartwell LTC and Four Elms Retirement Residence for assisting in mom’s care in her final weeks and years.  In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society, Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice is appreciated by the family.
