elevated mlDOh With faith in the promise of eternal life, we announce the passing of Rev. Fr. Joseph Minguel Rodrigues, who entered into eternal rest on June 17, 2026, in Toronto, Canada, at the age of 69.
elevated mlDOh Fr. Joseph was born on May 24, 1957, Bombay in India to the late Damiao and Clarina (Clara) Rodrigues of Bogmalo, Goa. He was the beloved third child in a family of seven siblings.
elevated mlDOh He is lovingly remembered by his sisters and brothers: Rosy (Evaristo) of Canada, the late Manuelita (Inacio) of Goa, Victoria (Alberto) of Uganda, Joaozinho (Julieta), Xavier (Savita), and Michael (Sevisa) of Canada, nieces, nephews and grand nieces. He cherished his family deeply and maintained close bonds with them throughout his life.
elevated mlDOh From an early age, Fr. Joseph felt a calling to serve God and His people. He pursued his priestly formation at the All India Mission Seminary in Pilar, Goa, and was ordained by Rt. Rev. Alex Dias, to the priesthood on April 21, 1985 and Fr. Joseph celebrated his first thanksgiving on May 5, 1985 in St. Cosme and St. Damiao Church, Bogmalo, Goa. His ordination marked the beginning of a lifelong journey of faith, service, and dedication to the Church.
elevated mlDOh As a missionary priest, Fr. Joseph spent more than a decade serving the people of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. He became known for his dedicated pastoral, social, and educational outreach to indigenous communities and settlers across the islands. Traveling to remote and scattered parishes, he brought the sacraments, spiritual guidance, and compassionate support to those living in isolated regions. His missionary spirit, generosity, and commitment left a lasting impact on countless lives.
elevated mlDOh Following his missionary service in India, Fr. Joseph was assigned to England, where he ministered faithfully for eleven years. During this time, he served as Parish Priest of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Deptford, London. The parish was especially demanding, requiring to accommodate its large Catholic community. Through his pastoral leadership, humility, and devotion, he touched many hearts and strengthened parish life.
elevated mlDOh In 2006, Fr. Joseph moved to Canada and began a new chapter of ministry within the Archdiocese of Toronto. He initially served at St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica in Toronto before receiving parish assignments that would define much of his Canadian ministry.
elevated mlDOh His first parish appointment was at St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Brampton, where he served as Associate Pastor for five years. Parishioners came to appreciate his gentle presence, thoughtful homilies, and genuine concern for the spiritual well-being of all.
elevated mlDOh He was subsequently transferred to St. Bernadette Parish in Ajax, where he continued his ministry as Associate Pastor for another five years. His dedication to pastoral care, sacramental ministry, and community life earned him the respect and affection of parishioners and fellow clergy alike.
elevated mlDOh Fr. Joseph was then appointed Pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Uxbridge, where he served faithfully for five years. As pastor, he guided the parish community with wisdom, compassion, and a deep sense of responsibility. His leadership strengthened the faith life of the parish and fostered a welcoming and supportive community.
elevated mlDOh His next assignment was at St. Christopher’s Parish in Mississauga. It was during his time there that his health began to decline. Following the onset of serious illness, he went on medical leave. Despite the challenges he faced, Fr. Joseph bore his suffering with faith, courage, and trust in God’s providence until his passing.
elevated mlDOh Throughout forty-one years of priestly ministry, Fr. Joseph exemplified the qualities of a devoted shepherd. He was known for his humility, simplicity, kindness, and steadfast commitment to serving the people of God. Whether ministering in remote mission territories, parish communities, or among those in need of spiritual comfort, he carried out his vocation with love and dedication.
elevated mlDOh Fr. Joseph leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and compassion. He will be fondly remembered by his family, brother priests, parishioners, friends, and all whose lives were enriched by his ministry. His memory will continue to inspire those who knew him and benefited from his faithful witness to the Gospel.

We were heartbroken to hear of Father Joseph’s passing. He was a wonderful, kind and gentle soul. We were blessed to have him guide Sacred Heart Parish in Uxbridge with wisdom and understanding. He welcomed everyone but was particularly drawn to the children. His face would light up as they approached him at the end of the mass. Rarely did they escape without an extended hand and a big smile, which was returned happily.
He worked hard to build a strong and caring faith community.
He will be missed but remembered with warmth and love.

Though his time with us at St. Christopher’s in Clarkson was all too brief, Fr. Joe was a true farmer-priest—tilling the soil of our hearts with humble grace, unwavering endurance, and quiet dedication. His unassuming nature masked a profound strength, and his shepherding touched us more deeply than he ever knew. We will miss him dearly. Father Joseph joined the Knights of Columbus when he served his ministry at St. Anthony of Padua. Moreover he joined the 4th degree of the Patriot Order of the Knights of Columbus in 2010 and was knighted Sir Knight Father Joseph with Assembly 3433. He was inspired by the example of St. Teresa of Calcutta. He dedicated himself in serving the needs of others especially their spiritual needs. His Brother Knights express our gratitude to the Lord for giving us Father Joseph to be with us and for the priesthood of Jesus that Father Joseph lived. May St Teresa and Blessed Father McGivney welcome him to the Joy of Heaven. Thanks be to God! Vivat Jesus!
I met Fr.Joe at St. Anthony of Padua Church In Brampton.We hit it of right away and became good friends.As a Brother Knight, he was always there to assist with guidance, and fatherly advice.He was a true Shepherd and followed in the footsteps of the Supreme Shepherd, Jesus,
