elevated 19LHy Obituary

elevated 19LHy Francesco Salvatore “Franco” Menniti passed away at the remarkable age of 100, leaving behind a life defined by family, hard work, courage and tradition. Born in Tiriolo, Catanzaro, Italy, Franco proudly served for seven years as a Carabiniere before making the courageous journey to Canada in the 1950s, following his beloved Maria and beginning a new chapter of his life in Toronto.

Franco and Maria built a foundation for their future in Canada and a family rooted in the values he carried with him from Italy. Their home in Toronto’s Christie Pits neighbourhood also became a welcoming place for relatives beginning new lives in Canada, including other members of the Menniti and Critelli families whom he helped sponsor. Together, Franco and Maria were proud to see their children and their families grow,: Pina and her husband Roger, Frank and his wife Nancy, Vince and his wife Anna, Johnny and his wife Gina, and Anna and her husband Craig. Franco was overjoyed to then welcome his grandchildren — Marie, Andrew, Claudine, Daniela, Francesco, Tristan, Samantha, Jack, Sara and D’Angelo — and his great-grandchildren, Mateo and Ava. Nothing brought him greater pride or happiness than the family he and Maria created.

Franco will be remembered for his strength, generosity and devotion to those he loved, as well as for the traditions that kept his Italian heritage alive. And while his family now says goodbye with heavy hearts, there is comfort in knowing that Franco is welcomed into Heaven by his beloved daughter Pina.

Franco was a good and remarkable man who will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever remain a part of the family he cherished so dearly.
