elevated 7EkD5 Obituary
Francesco “Frank” Mauro, a devoted father and husband, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026, in Stouffville, Ontario, at the age of 86. Born on February 28, 1939, in Malito, Cosenza, Italy, he was the eldest son of the late Antonio and Carolina Mauro. His life was a testament to the power of love, family and hard work.
elevated 7EkD5 Frank’s journey to Canada began in December 1953 when he emigrated with his mother and siblings to reunite with their father in Toronto. This brave new beginning was the backdrop to meeting his beloved wife, Aurora. The young couple wed in May 1959 and embarked on a life filled with love for each other and their growing family.
elevated 7EkD5 As the eldest son, Frank led with strength and compassion. His siblings, the late Ercole (Maria), Rosina (late Leonardo), late Esther and Mario, looked to him for guidance and support. Brother in law to the late Gennaro (late Franca), Luigi (Claire) Mary (Carmelo).
elevated 7EkD5 Frank and Aurora’s home was filled with the joy of their children, Lina (Emilio), Tony (Carolyn) and Rosemary (Doug). Frank’s role as a grandfather was one he cherished deeply, sharing his wisdom and love with his grandchildren, Michael (Andrea), Daniel (Breeda), Robert (Elizabeth), Matthew, Christopher (Natalie), Rachael (Nate), Brandy (Julian), Nicholas and Kate. His great-grandchildren, Mikaela, Marcus, Juliet, Michael, Everleigh, Adelynn, Vivienne, Max, Melina, Aurora, Gage and Benny, will forever remember Nonno’s warm smile and embracing arms.
elevated 7EkD5 Frank’s work ethic was unparalleled. He began his career in construction as a labourer, then mastered the craft of bricklaying, and eventually became a home builder. His intelligence and business acumen were evident to all who worked with him. He not only passed on his skills to his children but also instilled in them invaluable life lessons that will continue to guide them. Frank was compassionate, demonstrating kindness and generosity to all he encountered. He enjoyed having his friends and family over. His interests were varied and always centred around his family.
elevated 7EkD5 He enjoyed travelling with Aurora, and together they made countless memories in Florida and Italy. Frank found joy in golfing, bowling, and had a particular fondness for food, especially desserts. His love for his family was paramount, and he took immense pride in witnessing the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.
elevated 7EkD5 When Aurora passed, Frank found his life changed. He was sad to lose his guiding light, and his smile dimmed. He continued to live but not fully. He is now reunited with his beloved wife.
elevated 7EkD5 His legacy is one of unwavering commitment to his family, a testament to the life he built and the lives he touched. Today, we celebrate a man who was not only the foundation of his family but also a caring Nonno and a friend to many. Frank’s memory will continue to inspire and guide us, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
elevated 7EkD5 The family would like to express their gratitude to the many wonderful caregivers and doctors who have assisted Frank in the last stages of his life, including Dr. Peter Haw, Dr. John Di Costanza and the very caring Dr. Andrew Patterson and Nurse Maria. They helped make this transition easier.

Frank will always be my definition of a patriarch based on so many observations in my formative years. I will cherish the memories made, the wisdom he gave, but most of all how special he made me feel. I always felt welcome, acknowledged and valued at any age by him. He holds a special place in my heart and I will continue to share his influence in my life in that of my son. I am so grateful to have had one more fleeting moment of connection with him over my visit last Summer. All my love and deepest condolences to Lina, Tony and Rosemary and their families.

Lina, Tony, Rosemary & families,
We were deeply saddened to hear of Frank’s passing. Our heartfelt condolences to the entire family.
Frank was a very kind and generous man. We will always remember and value his friendship. We have countless fond memories of wonderful times spent together with both Frank and Aurora. We especially enjoyed our vacations together in Florida and Italy.
Frank always enjoyed a good meal. One particular memory is of Frank going to the mercato early in the morning in Amantea to buy freshly picked figs for all of us to enjoy on the beach. We would also have prosciutto and tomato panini followed by freshly baked ciambelle and an espresso to finish the meal. Let’s not forget Aurora’s homemade chocolate chip cake and lemon cookies!
Those days may be gone but the memories remain. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
