elevated 5icf0 Obituary
Francis Eric Williams, age 92, died peacefully on January 10, 2026, in Windsor, Ontario, in the same quiet and dignified way in which he lived his life.

elevated 5icf0 Affectionately known as Eric, Dad, and Papa, he was predeceased by his beloved wife of 47 years, Joan (nee Fernandes), in 2005; his infant granddaughter, Hannah MacMillan (1996); and his infant great-grandson, Laine Williams-Meech (2023). Also predeceased by his father, Oscar, and his siblings, Rita and Rodney.

elevated 5icf0 An amazing father and role model, whose children will always be grateful for his love and dedication: Christine MacMillan and son-in-law Ian of Windsor; Ashley Williams and daughter-in-law Susan of Montreal; and Karen van Zyverden and son-in-law John of Windsor, formerly of Owen Sound.

elevated 5icf0 Eric was a witty and playful Papa to Sydney Williams (Isaac) of Montreal, Rylan Williams (Madison) of Ottawa, Isabella MacMillan (Ryan) of Windsor, and Chloe van Zyverden (Noah) of Ottawa. He was a proud great-grandfather to twins Levi and Delilah Williams-Meech of Ottawa.

elevated 5icf0 Eric was born on November 7, 1933, in the British Colony of Burma (Myanmar) in the city of Rangoon. In his youth, Eric endured many heartbreaks. His mother left the family when Eric was three, and he was sent away to boarding school. Eventually, he was raised by his father. During the WWII Japanese incursion into mainland Southeast Asia, his family fled Burma on foot to Calcutta before settling in Lahore, British India. Despite all his hurdles, Eric thrived in school and went on to obtain a law degree.

elevated 5icf0 In 1958, Eric married Joan, and they had three children together. After immigrating to Canada in 1967, they settled in Brampton, Ontario, where they raised their family and spent most of their lives. Eric was a dedicated and valued employee of The Manufacturer’s Life Insurance Company, Toronto (Manulife) until his retirement in 1998. Following Joan’s death, Eric remained in Brampton, creating a life deeply rooted in his Roman Catholic faith. He volunteered tirelessly at his church well into his eighties and cherished time spent with his church friends at Timmy’s. The family always knew that Papa’s home had an open-door policy.

elevated 5icf0 Eric was a voracious reader, dedicated to his daily walks, a lifelong Toronto Maple Leafs fan, and a master of the perfectly personalized omelette.

elevated 5icf0 After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, Eric left his beloved Brampton in 2024 and moved to Windsor to be closer to family. He continued to live independently until his death. A gentle soul who lived his faith quietly, Eric has now gone to his heavenly home.
