elevated FWbJk George “Michael” Moffat, of Brampton, ON, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021. 

elevated FWbJk Michael was born on August 25, 1935, to Thomas and Jennie (Harris) Moffat (predeceased) in Belleville, ON. Raised in Tweed, ON, with his parents and 8 siblings, it is in this small town where he met the love of his life, Catherine. Michael and Catherine raised their four children in Toronto and Brampton, where they were involved in many sports and activities. With their keen interest in sports, Michael often coached his sons’ hockey and baseball teams, travelling to various games and taking his daughter to dance competitions in the U.S.

elevated FWbJk After graduating with an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree, Queens University, Michael worked for 11 years at the T. Eaton Company. From there, he joined the Oshawa Food Group, holding many different executive positions over 30 years, culminating with his role as Vice President Corporate Business Planning. After early retirement, Michael started his own successful consulting business. Following this, he volunteered with the Brampton Safety Council for 17 years, including the position of Chairman on the council, and was an active member of PROBUS. In addition to being an avid reader and solving daily crossword puzzles, Michael enjoyed playing golf, shooting pool with his friends and had a great interest in his favourite teams; the Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs. A fierce competitor in Bridge, he proudly achieved the status of Lifetime Master with the ACBL. He joined the local Rosedale Social and Duplicate Bridge Clubs, and as well took pleasure as a member of their golf league. 

elevated FWbJk Michael’s greatest love was his family. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 59 years, Catherine (nee Quinn) and children Edward (Evangeline) Moffat, James Moffat, John (Jennifer) Moffat, and Kate (Matthew) Devine. He will be dearly missed by his adored grandchildren Jonathan, Quinn, Tess, Emma, Meaghan, Nicholas, Kaitlyn, Isabel and Hailey, and his brother Wally (Georgina) Moffat. Predeceased by his siblings Alison (Brandow), Millicent, Enid, Margaret, Cara (Butler), Gertrude and Tom Moffat.

elevated FWbJk The family wishes to thank all his wonderful friends for their love and support, and the excellent and compassionate care of the doctors and nurses at Trillium Health Partners – Mississauga Hospital, and Cathy McKeen, who was an integral part of Michael’s care. A private funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church followed by the interment at Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Mississauga on Friday, July 9, 2021. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a tribute donation to the Mississauga Hospital.
