It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gaetano (Gerry) Christina, age 81, of Mississauga, Ontario. Gerry passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at Mississauga Trillium Hospital.
Born on September 3, 1944, in Hamrun on the beautiful island of Malta, Gerry was the eldest of ten children to Anthony and Maria Cristina. In 1962, he immigrated to Canada with his father and sister Carmen, soon followed by the rest of the Cristina family.
By trade, Gerry was a skilled tailor, apprenticing under his uncle, Edward Azzopardi. He dedicated several years to perfecting his craft and carried with him a remarkable work ethic—one he proudly passed on to his children.
Gerry met the love of his life, Linda, in Toronto. They married on January 27, 1968, and recently celebrated 58 wonderful years together.
They raised five children: Edward, Lisa (Domenic), Michelle, Patricia, and Rosemarie (John‑Paul). Gerry was the cherished grandfather of Alexandra (Kevin), Lauren, Tavia, Jakob, Lexi, Sarah, Chelsea, John, Logan, Damon, and Fiora, and the proud great‑grandfather of Xavier, Ava, and Lorenzo.
Gerry will also be lovingly remembered by his siblings—Carmen, Vincenza, Anthony, Josephine, Doris, Marcel, Ray, Ian, and Rita—and by his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He will be fondly remembered for his devotion to the “Beautiful Game” and his unwavering support for Manchester United FC. Gerry took great pride in caring for his home, loved sharing meaningful conversations, and treasured hearing stories from his children and grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at Assumption Catholic Cemetery on March 11, 2026, from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.
A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, 3224 Dundas St. W., Toronto.
Interment will occur at Assumption Catholic Cemetery immediately after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation in memory of Gerry Christina.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate nurses and doctors at Mississauga Trillium Hospital for their care and support.
