elevated CjEt8 It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we mourn the passing of Giacinto Toppi on October 27, 2022 at the age of 83. Beloved husband to Filomena for 53 wonderful years. Caring and devoted father to Maria and her husband John, Adelina, and Victoria and her husband Josh. Proud and loving Nonno to Christian, Angelica and Arianna.
elevated CjEt8 Giacinto was born on April 30, 1939 in Palena, Provincia di Chieti, Italy. He was the loving son of the late Camillo and Maria Urania Toppi, dearest brother of Nina and her husband Emidio and the late Domenico and wife Fernanda. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends both near and far.
elevated CjEt8 Giacinto’s family was his pride and joy. His grandchildren meant the world to him and brought him much happiness. He was an amazing husband, father and Nonno whose memory will remain forever in our hearts.

Growing up with zio Giacinto always meant that he was cracking jokes and livening up any gathering. The way he would repeatedly call zia Filomena “my wolf” instead of “my wife” or when, for a period of time when I was quite young and naïve, I thought that he was a doctor at the hospital he worked at, instead of the custodian because that was what he told me with such a straight poker face. But what I will remember most about zio, is how he was always so kind and sweet to Adamo and how much he loved our dear Hitch. Zio understood why Adamo had Hitch and he always made us feel at home when we brought him over. For that zio, I will be forever grateful. We will miss you, but we take comfort in knowing you suffer no longer. Now you can be with your parents and zio Domenico and my mom will undoubtedly have some baked goods ready for you to eat! Also, I’m sure Hitch will want you to play fetch with him…all the time. Rest in heavenly peace, zio.
Giacinto has been apart of our families story since the day they all left Italy and docked in Halifax 57 years ago. He’s always going to be remembered fondly as a kind person who was well like by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Zio Giacinto will always be remember fór his jokes…as a child he told me he was a Doctor…in a hospital.. until i was old enough to realized he wasn’t, cause he laughed every time i asked..what do you dó. ? He would awnser “sto vicìno al dottore ” !! he replied.
I would laugh sò hard my gut hurt after my visit with him.He would always call his wife..’my wolf!”He loved talking about Palena then in 1965 &wanting to know about Palena now2022.
He loved his garden…spént all his free time ..growing his crops.
He loved children gave my sòṅ Mattia his sò charished garden hat.
He was allergic to thè sûn and spent all’ our picnic’s under thè tree ..in thè share..fully dressed..but always went home burt red…like a tomatoes
He loved his wine!!Salute Zio ..up in heaven no more sufferimg.Cheers to that!

Lots of great memories with Compa Giacinto, may you rest in peace. My deepest condolences to the entire family.
They say a child’s first hero is their father. This statement could not be more true. For anyone who knew my father, you would know that his two passions were his garden and making people laugh.
For those of you who visited, you would have been given the grand tour of his garden between the months of May and September. He was extremely proud of his green thumb and the fact that he could pretty much grow anything. The fact that he could have one tree produce two types of fruit..who does that? I would proudly say, my father does.
My father always had a barzelletta (joke) to share. No matter where we were or what we were doing, he would say something funny that would always end in hysterical laughter. Many times, someone would be drinking when he delivered the punchline…big mistake. Whatever was in your mouth was coming out, followed by laughter. Thank you Papa for always making us laugh and smile.
For the past year, we battled his health issues head on. On October 27th, I not only lost my father, I lost my best friend. I am now left with this huge void in my heart and my life has been changed forever.
Papa, I will always love you and miss you every day that we’re apart. I could not ask for a better father, the best father-in-law to John and the greatest and most loving Nonno to Christian and Angelica.
We will take care of Mama for you, so don’t worry. We will forever love and remember you, knowing that you’ll be watching over us all. Rest In Peace my dearest Papa❤️
