elevated sAYs6 Obituary

elevated sAYs6 NEGRI, Giovanna  (nee Mariani) – Passed away peacefully surrounded by her Family on September 29, 2019, in her 85th year, after a year-long battle with cancer.  Cherished Mother to Rita (Jim), Teresa (Bob), Nick (Gail), and Cesidio (Sue).  Beloved Nana to Andrea (Dave), Brianna and Natalie;  Matthew, Sarah, Ryan and Tamara (Jason);  Alex, Andrew and (late) Stephen;  Jordyn, Taylor and Lucas.  Treasured Grand-Nana to Carson and Rowen.  Giovanna’s life was the true Italian immigrant story.  She left her homeland and her village of Collelongo in her early 20s, to seek a better life in Canada and to raise a loving family.  She lived her entire life with a strong work ethic, not only as a proud Mother of four, but as a greenhouse florist for over twenty years.  She had an unwavering faith in God to help guide her through life’s many challenges.  Giovanna had the classic Italian passion for food, gardening, cooking, and for hosting numerous family gatherings until she no longer could.  She loved nothing more than to be surrounded by the four generations of her growing family who loved her dearly — her 4 children, 12 grandchildren, and her 2 great-grandchildren.  She will be missed. Giovanna is predeceased by her husband, Mario Luca, as well as by her brothers Armando Mariani (Maria) and Antonio Mariani (Maria).  She was a beloved Zia to Marisa Postiglione (Rocky) and a very special sister-in-law to Maria Mariani and Lidia Ialacci.   As well, she was a dear Zia to her numerous nieces and nephews, and a kind friend to those who knew her. The Family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and PSW staff at both Richview Manor (Maple) and Margaret Bahen Hospice (Newmarket) for managing Giovanna’s end-of-life care in a kind and compassionate manner.
