Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Giovanni Bennardo, August 22, 2026 at the age of 77. He is reunited in Heaven with his parents Vincenzo & Rosa.
Beloved husband of Annina for 56 beautiful years. Loving father of Vincenzo (Lisa), and Rosa (Gary). Caring Grandfather of Melissa (Herald), Gianni, Isabella, and Daniel. Adored brother of Teresa (late Luigi), late Gina (late Antonio), Massimo (Anna), Nella (Salvatore), and Mario (Franca). Cherished brother in law, cousin, uncle and great friend to our wonderful extended family.
Giovanni came to Canada in 1970 with his wife Annina and they both built a life centered around family, hard work, and tradition. He sacrificed and poured his heart into his family, his home and his work in asphalt paving for over 40 years working with Seal Top, Repac, Brennan and Miller Paving. Despite the difficult work and long hours paving the greater Toronto roadways, he was extremely proud of his contribution to this great city and made many great friendships along the way.
He enjoyed memorable trips to see his sister and extended family in Kamloops, British Columbia and Edmonton, Alberta where he was able to enjoy the natural beauty of our great country. There were also many wonderful vacation trips to the Dominican, Cuba and Las Vegas and to Calabria to see his mother, sister and brothers where a part of his heart always remained.
He will be remembered by family and friends for his wonderful laughter, great smile and the loud fun they all enjoyed with him whenever they came together — whether it be for simple Saturday night visits that included epic all-night Italian card games and Hockey Night in Canada or holiday celebrations at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Years Eve at an Italian banquet hall. He loved dancing, especially tarantellas, and being together with family and friends enjoying wonderful Italian food with classic Italian music hits and folk songs.
He will also be fondly remembered for his passion for sports, especially his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs, Italian soccer and Ferrari’s formula 1 team and for the simple joys he shared with those around him including tending to his remarkable vegetable garden and making soppressata and capocollo.
Giovanni took great pride in the life he and his wife built and, above all, the family and friends he loved. Giovanni’s presence will be so sorely missed but always felt and remembered! May his memory be a blessing, and may he remain in eternal peace. Memorial donations can be made to the
Kidney Foundation of Canada in Giovanni’s memory.
Necrologio
Kidney Foundation of Canada

Ron and I send our deepest condolences to Anna, Vince, Rosa and your families. John was a wonderful neighbour to us for many years. We will miss seeing him in his garage this Fall, preparing tomatoes for Anna’s amazing spaghetti sauce. We will miss hearing his deep voice that carried to our backyard when he was outside in his garden. Anna you did such an amazing job, helping John cope with his illness and all the things involved with his dialysis. Please find comfort knowing you were his greatest support and that he has left you with children who will carry on his love for family. RIP John.
