It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Giovanni (John) Pianosi on February 2nd 2025 in his 95th year. John passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital.
elevated UC05e Born April 13th, 1929 in Falcineto, Italy, to Teresa Peroni and Duilio Pianosi. He was the youngest of three siblings, predeceased by his sister Fernanda and brother Ezio.
elevated UC05e He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Eleanor, and four children; Joanne (Kim), Ian (Niki), Cristina, and Giova (Nancy), seven grandchildren; Alexine (Mike), David (Alice), Michael, Deanna (Christina), Gianni, Alessandro (Meghan), and Roberto (Stephanie), and two great-grandchildren; Emilyn and John (his namesake) and leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he adored.
elevated UC05e His journey is a story of strength, survival, triumph, love, family, friendship, travel, and a perpetual fascination with the great outdoors.
elevated UC05e Despite the challenges he faced as a young man, including the death of this father when John was 4 years old, and the aftermath of the Second World War in Italy, John defied the odds and persevered to build a successful life in Canada.
elevated UC05e He was a true builder in more ways than one, founding a successful business, many lifelong friendships, and most important to him, his family.
elevated UC05e He was an avid outdoorsman with a great draw to the wilderness and a love for Canada. He travelled all corners with his friends, family, and dogs.
elevated UC05e He leaves us with an abundance of great memories and we will be forever inspired by his spirit, courage, and inner strength.

Gianni, John or Mr. P, you will forever be in our hearts.
You were a close friend to our father, and our families shared many trips and adventures throughout the years.
You shared a special bond with my husband Michael, both of you loved the outdoors and went on many fishing and hunting trips.
I’m sure your friends are waiting for you on the other side, fishing rods in hand.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of ‘Uncle Johnny” as we knew him. The Giuliani family Angela, Lolita Joe and John will cherish the memories we had of him and his wonderful family. My father Lamberto came over from Italy with him and they remained great fishing buddies over his lifetime. His kindness and generosity will never be forgotten. My sincerest condolences to Elenor and your family

Mr. P you leave our family with so many treasured memories. Boat trips, ski trips, fishing trips, the farm and least we forget our annual cutting down of the Christmas tree. Every trip had a story that to this day brings tears of laughter. There were no dull moments!!!! You were one of a kind! Rest in peace Mr. P
I was deeply saddened to hear about John’s passing. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.
I’ll always cherish the great memories we shared out in the field, hunting together. John had a way of making every trip memorable, whether it was with his exquisite cooking, adventurous will, or the rambunctious
stories that followed long after the day was done. His passion for the outdoors and his genuine friendship made him a truly one of a kind! Once Lola chewed my dad’s sweater and we all laughed for days over that.
In Upsula I hid the seat of his atv and he thought it was taken by a bear that was looming in our camp that night. I would sass John all the time and he’d always retaliate with a huge smile, calling me a rascall.
He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will always be present in the woods and in the stories we carry forward, but especially in my heart..

It is hard to say goodbye to my dear friend Gianni Pianosi! Over 50 years ago I met john when we rented our factory just off the 400.
From that day forward we formed a close friendship and I was introduced to a totally new life adventure, his way of life. Our families became close and we enjoyed many wonderful times together.
John and I would tramp through the woods to hunt woodcock grouse. We would travel to destinations to duck hunt together, or fly north to goose hunt. We fished all over and of course would get into cooking up a great meal from our catch.
when we got home Eleanor would cook a fantastic feasts with woodcock or other game that we would all enjoy. What fun it all was.
Whenever I was with John he made everything an adventure! He loved his family and his friends. He was an honorable soul who I loved dearly.
Rest in peace my dear friend.
My deepest condolences to Eleanor and family. John was a very kind man who helped me with a school project over 50 years ago at his construction site. My father had many a laugh with him over the years.

Mr. P, you will be forever remembered and in our hearts. You brought such adventure, laughter and unforgettable memories into our lives.
From canoe trips to fishing on the boat from travels to Myrtle Beach and Europe to ski trips in Quebec City – every experience with Mr. P was a story waiting to be told. He made even the simplest moments special, whether it was roasting chestnuts by the fire, hunting and fishing with my dad or barbecuing chicken wings in the fireplace at the farm. And, of course who could forget the annual Christmas tree adventures?
Through it all there was endless laughter-his joy and humor filled every moment, turning even the smallest adventures into cherished memories.
Gianni lived a life full of adventure, friendship and joy. I have no doubt my dad and many others are waiting to greet him on the other side, ready to celebrate and pick up where they left off.
A life well lived. Rest in peace, Mr. P
