elevated OU93A It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Giovanni (John) Vercillo on November 6, 2025, at Hospice Vaughan. John died peacefully with his loving family by his side.
elevated OU93A Loving husband of 46 years to Marisa. Proud father to Anthony (Michael). He is survived by his brother Gino (Judy), and his nephews Jacob and Matteo.
elevated OU93A John will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all of his extended family and friends.
I’m truly saddened to hear this disheartening loss. John Vercillo was my professor for Audio Editing when I was first enrolled in Humber College – North Campus for the Broadcasting – Radio program in 2018. He also taught me in second year before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. John was an amazing professor and I will always fondly remember him admiring my special calendar talent skill. May John be at peace in the arms of our Heavenly Father and Our Saviour. May God comfort you all during this sad and difficult time. Thoughts and prayers, Stefan Tomasi

I just found out through one of my past radio colleagues that John passed. Heartbreaking news. I worked with John back in my days of Talk 640 and Q107 and learned a lot from him and audio production. Very fond memories. Rest well brother.
My deepest condolences and sympathies to the Vercillo family.
I had the pleasure of learning from John at Humber, and working with him briefly at Corus.
John was/is a fundamental portion of our education at Humber College for the Radio Broadcasting program.
The visits to Corus in his studio gave young broadcasters the opportunity to know the difference of what the major leagues felt like.
Although the students didn’t know at the time, we were in the presence of an industry titan.
John made sure to answer every question you had, take the time to make sure you knew what was what, and did it all with a finesse that was incredible.
I thank him for his contributions to not only my education, but other lucky students/colleagues who had the opportunity to spend time with this wonderful man.
In all of our opinions, he’s a first ballot Canadian Broadcasting hall of fame inductee; and an incredible man.
A tremendous loss.

I am truly saddened by hearing that John has passed away. I remember him as being so welcoming when I first started working at Corus and such a positive energy whenever we ran into each other in the hallways. He would always stop and talk, no matter what kind of hurry he was in and was a joy to work with in the recording booth. My heart goes out to his family, John was a wonderful human being.
Dear Brother
It is with a heartfelt goodbye to a life celebrated with many memories. Thank you, brother, for being a friend, mentor and always the voice of reason during difficult times. Your witty humor will sadly be missed and always be remembered as it always made things easier when things were difficult to deal with. I’m very sad to hear about the passing of John and my sincerest sympathies to his family and all who knew him. I worked with John for many years as he was an amazing producer for sure. I was always impressed with his patience especially with clients and his way of doing his profession. I’m so glad I had to the chance to know John and work with him all those years. He was most certainly a real pleasure to be around.

John was the first professor I had at Humber and I couldn’t have been happier. He helped shape me as a radio producer and always had my back. I never thought that him and I would work together so closely in Toronto with both of us working together at Corus. He was a mentor, a leader, a true friend and a great producer full of stories and laughs. I will cherish all the memories I have of him and can only speak great things about him. John was my audio editing professor at Humber, and was truly one of the good ones. He stayed after class to help you if you needed it, he was brutally honest if your commercial wasn’t that good, and he always took the time to have a conversation with you after class or in the halls. The radio industry lost one of the best mentors, and the world lost a good person.

John was a very kind soul with a very good heart. Many years ago he helped put a demo tape together for me in his studio. I was deeply impressed with his tremendous talents in broadcasting production. I was a former radio broadcaster and know real talent when I see it. John will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace. I was colleague of Johns for the past 8 years at Corus Entertainment. He was always available to help out with projects, provide creative options to get audio production off the ground or to completion. I loved chatting with him when we worked together or just meeting up in the hallway etc. Sad to hear of his passing. Condolences to family and all who knew John.

John Vercillo was my production professor when I was in radio school at Humber, then my co-worker at Q107 and 102.1 The Edge, and later my colleague when I began teaching alongside him at Humber. He always got such a kick out of me during our Teams meetings, laughing whenever I’d pipe up to open my big mouth.
John was an incredible human being, endlessly talented, kind, and a true mentor and radio brother. I always loved running into him outside the station or Humber, usually at sushi where he’d be out on a dinner date with his beautiful wife.
I’m going to miss him deeply and will always cherish our moments together in the studio, him behind the board and me behind the mic. 💔

John and I have known each other for almost 20 years. First, he was my professor at Humber College. Later he was my co-worker when I was hired at Corus. Then, he became my friend. One of the finest people I’ve ever met in my life – and a guy who could produce a spot like nobody’s business (sorry about the revisions, John). Thanks for helping this once clueless young man gain knowledge in the radio industry. I’ll miss our chats and your jokes about the Toronto Blue Jays and Leafs. My condolences to John’s family and friends.

John will be greatly missed. I was a member of the Radio Humber Class of 2023 and had the pleasure of knowing John. I always enjoyed our casual conversations about the industry and just “talking shop” with him. John was a wonderful person and great teacher. He really supported me in my journey and I really enjoyed every class with him and every conversation thereafter. May he rest in peace, his legacy will never be forgotten. A truly wonderful person.
I was a student of John’s at Humber, and then a colleague at Corus when I worked at Q107. He was a gentleman and a lovely, lovely guy. Condolences to all that loved him.
Marisa and John’s entire family, John’s absence is enormous. We worked together at CFGM 1320 for three year starting in 1985. Nothing was impossible to accommodate with John. His upbeat spirit helped all of us have a blast under Greg Slaight’s station.
Despite his pain, he delivered cheerfully without complaints.

Sad to hear this news of John’s passing. Verch and I go waaay back…to the mid 70’s when we were Radio students at Humber College. A few years later, we both started our careers at the same station…CFGM…myself in production…John in the newsroom. When I left to go to another station, John grabbed my production gig, and never looked back. He became a great producer, and the backbone of CFGM and it’s various incantations thereafter…The Hog, AM 640, Talk 640, Mojo, etc. Besides being talented, John was easy to work with,. and it was fun to re-connect with him years later when our respective stations, Q107 and AM 640 relocated to share the same space. Funny, I thought of John a few weeks ago, when Game 3 of the Jays World Series went 18 innings. In the mid 90’s, John and I went to New York City to recieve a radio award at the New York Festivals. While we were there, I dragged John to a Mets game at Shea Stadium which went…gulp…16 innings. It was a meaningless game, and as the innings craw;ed by, I kept telling John that we didn’t have to stay if he wanted to leave it was ok…but he insisted on staying, saying “hey, when are we ever going to be at Shea Stadium again? ” Indeed. RIP
I am deeply saddened at the news of John’s passing. I have worked with John for just under 30 years and came to know him has a true professional, gentleman and friend. During this time I’ve seen him mentor countless aspiring young radio producers.
