Giuseppe (Joe) DeNigris was born in Palazzo San Gervasio, Potenza, Italy on July 16, 1931, to Marco DeNigris and Angela Manicone.
He was the devoted husband of Angela (nee: Lacivita) for almost 68 years and loving father of Mary (Angelo Ascione) and Marco (Cindy Courtemanche).
Joe’s happiest role was that of Nonno to Nathan and Amelia, his pride and joy.
Although Joe came from humble beginnings and lived the classic immigrant experience, he was known for many things: a hard worker, with a very strong work ethic; tireless long distance walker; sharp dresser; opera lover with a booming tenor voice; a ballerino on the dance floor who would sweep his dance partners off their feet; eloquent orator who became our family’s “unofficial / official” public speaker, sharing stories and memories at family functions, writing his speeches in the most beautiful and ornate cursive writing; animated and expressive story-teller who would have to stop and compose himself because he would laugh so hard, and of course an avid Juve soccer fan.
Joe will be missed for all these reasons and more by his family and friends in Canada, U.S. and Italy.
Our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who supported the family during these last three and a half years, as Joe’s health deteriorated.
In particular, special thanks to Dr. Trevor Morey, Dr. Hardeep Prewall, Dr. Harleen Toor. Nurses Eloisa and Caterina. P.S.W.s, Brenda, Lyndon, Sandra, Allison, Ghenet, Chandni, Raschelle, Chelsea and Oluchi. Caregivers Toni, Janice, Beth. The staff at Baycrest Hospital, Palliative Care Unit 6 West.
Their professionalism, genuine empathy and care allowed Joe to pass from this world to the next, maintaining the dignity that he deserved.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to:
Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care
St. Elizabeth Visiting Nurses
Ontario Health at Home (VHA, Circle of Care)

Dear Mary and Angelo,
Deepest condolences on the passing of your dearest father, Joe.
As I read your words, I clearly recall the resonant sound of his voice both in his commanding speech and song.
Most of all, I remember his kind, friendly demeanour, his captivating smile, and, yes, his gentlemanly presence. He was truly a loving person. May Joe be in eternal peace with God.
With love,
Sante and Rita

Mary and family:
Sending my deepest condolences to you all. Your father Joe’s jovial nature and quick wit made every interaction with him memorable. I’ll always smile remembering our church encounters and his classic greeting, “Did you change religion?” He was a wonderful man—unshakable in his faith, deeply committed to his family. I can’t help but picture a huge celebration in heaven today. He’s undoubtedly keeping everyone smiling up there. Eternal rest…..
My condolences to the DeNigris family.
