It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Giuseppe Puzzella, affectionately known to all as Joe, on Sunday January 4, 2026. He passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side.

Joe was the devoted husband of Carmela, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage. Their life together was a testament to love, partnership, and family. They worked hard together and enjoyed many adventures, travels, and endeavours (like their beauty salon and shoe store in Thunder Bay) throughout their marriage.

elevated Kt0tj He was a proud and loving father to Cristina (Jason) and Michael (Robyn) who will forever cherish the wisdom, warmth, and humour he brought into their lives.

elevated Kt0tj As a father, Joe was endlessly supportive and present—fishing, coaching hockey, helping with school projects, building sandcastles, capturing family memories as the photographer and videographer, planning memorable vacations, and being a chauffeur to his children and their friends whenever they asked for a ride. His role as a dad was rooted in a great love and devotion for his children.

Joe’s most treasured role was that of Nonno. He was a source of boundless love and joy to his grandchildren—Gianluca, Martina, Sienna, Julian and Zoey. Together they shared magical moments fishing, swimming, playing chess and gitoni, gardening, going for wagon rides and long walks, and enjoying countless visits to the playground. These precious memories will live on in their hearts forever.

Joe was born on August 20, 1953, in Campobello di Licata, Sicily, Italy, to the late Vincenzo and Maria Puzzella. In 1960, he immigrated to Canada with his family, settling in Toronto.

Joe was a beloved brother to Geltrude (the late Gioacchino), the late Pietro (Pina), Pietra (Carlo), Mario (the late Cheryl) Serafina (Gino), and the late Salvatore and (late Marisa).

Joe was an adored son-in-law to the late Domenico and Letterina Zaffino and a dear brother-in-law to Nazzareno (Barbara), Teresa (Art), Biagia, Bruno (Nicoletta), Maria (John), John (Magda), and Rita (John). Fondly known as “Uncle Joe” or “Zio Joe,” he held a special place in the hearts of his many nieces and nephews.

elevated Kt0tj Joe was an innovative thinker and an inventor of many useful gadgets, one of which was a twist off bottle opener that has an industrial design patent. It was coined “ez twist” and Joe couldn’t be prouder of this creation. He invented this with his brother-in-law Bruno, who was his partner in innovations.

elevated Kt0tj In retirement, Joe found joy in the simple pleasures—tinkering in the garage, repairing bikes, barbecuing, cycling around the neighbourhood and crafting birdhouses. Always a jokester, he entertained family and friends with tales of his “job hunts” in later years—going to interviews and proudly turning down offers just to prove he “still had it.”

Joe leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. He was a husband, father, Nonno, brother, uncle, and friend whose light, laughter, and enduring strength will be missed by all who knew him.

Joe was a true original and gentle man
that showed warmth & love to all he met and interacted with.
His deep love and pride for his wife Carmela & family was matched by his fierce ideologies and stance in the realm of science, religion and world politics.
Joe was a very good friend brother in law and devoted father to Cristina & Michael. Boundless love was shown for his grandchildren Gianluca , Sienna, Zoey, Martina and Julien.
To say Joe was emotional when speaking of topics close to his heart is like saying a nucular explosion has a little ripple effect.
Joe had a great gift for repairing things in his own imaginative way and was full of ideas like his twist off cap bottle opener Joe came up with the brilliant idea & pursued to manufacture and sell it.
Joe was multi-talented and achieved his hair dressing licence and real Estate license.
Joe’s home made pizza & tomatoe sauce was a masterpiece in taste, texture and colour.
Joe’s barbecues were legendary as were the fires Joe started in the fireplace or out door bonfires that smolderd for days.
Joe had an inate ability to look at nature’s creatures with peace and devotion and Joe would not even hurt a spider .
Joe loved playing ice hockey, swimming at Sauble & Wasaga beach , reading, playing chess like a chess master, gardening vegetables in “il giardino” and listening to endless music like “Santana”.
They say you lose a “little bit” of yourself when someone close to you passes away. In this instance the “little bit” is scattered like a bushel of sand across a marble floor.

Joe always brought joy and kindness in his interactions with people. We’ll miss the many laughs and good times we shared together and are thankful to have crossed your path. Buon viaggio and until next time.

Zio Joe adored and was very close to you, your brothers, your mom ( his sister Piera) Pietra and your dad ( his brother in law ) Carlo Francioni.
Carlo and Joe had similar interests, enjoyed Wasaga Beach, watching soccer, hockey games, and nature / science documentaries.
Zio Joe asked your parents to be the best man and maid of honour for his wedding, which they lovingly accepted.
Your mom and dad were his rock. Joe enjoyed spending time with them and it was time well spent! He was a family man, and had boundless love for the entire family !!!
