elevated 2LOgI Obituary
elevated 2LOgI Gladys Pinto – devout Catholic, dedicated teacher and Universal Nana – passed away on 10 May 2023 at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada. She was two months shy of turning 99 years old.
elevated 2LOgI Born 23 July 1924 in Mangalore India, Maria Teresa Gladys Apolinaris Rego was the fourth of six children of John Rego and Laetitia Nazareth. She was also blessed with eight more siblings after her mother passed away and her father married Molly Saldanha. Nana Gladys loved to regale us with stories of her beloved father, saintly mother, playing 7-tiles with her siblings and joyous family trips to the ancestral coffee estate in Chikkamagaluru.
elevated 2LOgI On 02 July 1945, Gladys married Percival (Percy) Pinto in Mangalore. For the next forty-six years, they built a life for themselves in Delhi with their six children – Sheila, Berna, Freda, Alexis, Mario and David. She spent forty-four of those years as a teacher at Presentation Convent and a tutor in her community. After her retirement at 62, and Percy’s passing in 1991, she spent the majority of her sunset years in Canada, focusing her love and attention on her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her years as a teacher prepared her perfectly for the role of homework monitor, spiritual councillor, and everyone’s favourite comfort blanket. She wrote beautifully handwritten letters and kept in touch with her friends and relations spread around the globe.
elevated 2LOgI She is survived by her six children, fourteen grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.
elevated 2LOgI In the days before she passed, she was surrounded by family and friends, making it evident how universally loved our Universal Nana was.

My dearest Mum
We bought a new house and sold our old house.
In Gujarati it is said Old clothes off and New clothes on.
Mum you have done the same.!
You have moved to your new heavenly home with peace, comfort and joy to live with our Heavenly Father’s House.
From here you will be looking down upon us and and will be making fun of us as you enjoy with laughter
We all love you and will be missed remembering the good old days we all spent with you.
Finally Mum I am sorry for anything I said or done wrong that may have offended you, Mum I ask for your forgiveness and your blessings.
I now put my trust in you and the Lord for forgiveness.
Please pray for us .
Amen

This is truly a life worth celebrating. An absolute joy to be with was our dearest Aunt Gladys. My greatest regret was that I couldn’t visit as often as I would’ve liked. Aunty Gladys you sure did have a way of making anyone feel loved and special it was a breath of fresh air to see you at 98 full of fun and jokes , that could only come from a happy and pure soul. We will miss you immensely but live in the hope of reuniting with you in our heavenly home. Rest in peace Aunty Gladys and when you come face to face with Jesus please remember to pray for us. Love and prayers
Aunty Gladys was gentle and radiated love and kindness.
She always appreciated, welcomed and had a good and kind word for everyone she met.
We always told her she looked like A Queen. She had amusing stories to relate and was fun to listen to.
Despite all her ailments and medication she was able to do a lot for her age.
Her Matriarch presence will be sorely missed..

Her Matriarchal presence will sorely be missed by all.
Eternal Rest grant unto her O Lord and may perpetuatl light shine upon her. May she Rest in Peace🙏
Dear Mario & Jean (former P&O bldg resident):
We were deeply saddened by the demise of the Matriach in your family. She was a longtime teacher at Presentation Convent, Delhi in the 4th. Grade.
We are reminded by Isiah the prophet from the BIBLE:
“DO NOT FEAR. I AM WITH YOU; DO NOT BE ANXIOUS: I AM YOUR GOD. I WILL STRENGTHEN YOU, I WILL HELP YOU, I WILL UPHOLD YOU WITH MY VICTORIOUS HAND.”
We believe, that the one who has gone before us in faith lives on forever. An angel (Gladys) has ascended into HEAVEN to join the Heavenly Father and all the angels and saints.
We are consoled that she left a lasting legacy in whatever role she adopted. She was peaceful, loving, kind, compassionate and simple in all her ways.
Our warm wishes and prayers to all in the Pinto family and good friends.
May the good God bless us all in the family.
The Dom & Cleo Ferrao family (USA)

We are deeply saddened that our lovely and graceful aunt Gladys is no more, but rejoice that she is now enjoying her heavenly reward and re-united with all our loved ones gone before her.
I was a regular receiver of her beautifully hand written letters each year and would marvel at her neat beautiful and perfectly steady writing. Aunty Gladys was a role model to all of us and though she lived far away from us, the annual letters and later emails kept us connected.
May she rest in eternal peace……
