elevated VFN6e With very deep sadness, we announce, that Gregory Anthony Dosman passed away peacefully at North York General Hospital, on Friday September 23rd, 2022 at the age of 66, after a stoic and courageous battle with Early-Onset Alzheimer’s Disease.
elevated VFN6e Greg was kind, loving and the most loyal and devoted son, brother, cousin, uncle and friend. Greg will be greatly missed by all who loved him, especially his brother Michael Francis, (Jill Anne nee Underhill), his nephews, Peter Michael (Nadia nee Galle), Jacob Anthony (Katie nee Badin), his niece, Kate Amelia, his great nephew, Angelo and his great niece, Chiara. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Reuben Anthony and Amelia Maria (nee Ferraro). Greg was also the loving Godfather to Stephen Lennie, John Paul Ferraro and his nephew, Peter Michael.
elevated VFN6e Greg was born in Guelph, Ontario and lived on Alice Street. Two years later, the family moved to Richmond Hill, Ontario and lived next door to his cousins, Paul, David, Donna and Janice. Greg’s family made their home there for more than 50 years.
elevated VFN6e Greg’s deep love for music started with his childhood accordion lessons. This keen music interest was further enhanced during his years in the high school band at Brebeuf College where he formed lifelong friendships with many great people. Some of these friends continued in music, forming various bands, one of which continued to play together with Greg and then for Greg when he lived at Cummer Lodge. Greg graduated from the University of Western Ontario, Kings College, with an Honours Degree in History in 1977. After graduating, Greg worked with his closest cousin, John Ferraro, in the family business for 35 years. Greg continued to enrich his colorful life with worldly travels, including trips to Mexico, Europe and Machu Picchu, Peru.
elevated VFN6e Everyone loved Greg. The knowledge he shared about so many things exemplified an intelligent and educated man who was also compassionate and considerate. Greg was close to the extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins, and attended many family functions at Jumping Deer Ranch where great memories were made and will never be forgotten.
elevated VFN6e Greg’s tireless dedication to his parents, Reuben and Molly was unprecedented. His love, patience and time with his nephews, Peter and Jacob, and his niece Kate will always be treasured.
elevated VFN6e The strong bond with his brother Michael and the close relationship with his sister-in-law Jill will be held in their hearts forever.
elevated VFN6e We would like to thank the family and friends who visited Greg over the past 12 years. Also, we thank Cummer Lodge for their excellent care for 6-½ years. And thank you to North York General Hospital, 3W, for the tender care Greg received in his final days.

I’ll see you tomorrow at the funeral but I did want to formally express my deep condolences to all of you.
As you know Greg has been part of my life for over40 years and I can’t imagine my life without images of Greg in it. Whether it be dinners at his place, going to the Bluegrass festivals, long telephone calls when he was in Florida after your dad’s heart surgery, long phone calls as he cared for your mom in Richmond Hill or long phone calls watching Seinfeld in our respective locations we always had lots to share.
I know how deeply he loved and cared for Jill, Peter, Jake and Kate and how he took my daughters Gabriela and Ashley into his heart.
He was such an amazing friend to me and the King’s College group of friends.
It’s been torture watching his decline and the slow erosion of who he was and the twinkle in his eye and the passion in his heart. I saw him on Labour Day at the hospital and it broke my heart. I am choosing to remember him in all the wonderful mess that he was. Remembering the birthday parties on Dec 26 at you previous home when times were good.
Even thought it has been such a long time since we have seen each other know that you Jill and your kids hold a special place in my heart and memory. God bless you and keep you in this difficult time and May your many positive memories of Greg serve to sustain you and remind you of a life that previously was full and happy.

So sad to hear of Greg’s passing, Mike. I know that you and he were close. These last few years must have been so very difficult for him, and you.
I got to know Greg when he came by my place to fix something, and I think we spent more time talking about music than on the issue at hand. He floored me with his knowledge of music, musical styles, and musicians. I have been a professional musician all of my life and he updated me! As we say among musicians, “he was a sweet cat” and I enjoyed him immensely.
My loss can only be a shadow of what you, Jill, and your family must be experiencing, and my heart goes out to you.

These comments are such a beautiful tribute to the lives Greg so graciously touched. His loss is such a kick in the gut; his long suffering so unfair. When I came on the scene some 30 years ago I suddenly robbed Greg of his best bud; his weekend & traveling companion – yet he welcomed me with love & friendship. He loved our children as if they were his own. He was such a good friend! Kind, loyal, loving, patient: always. We LOVE Greg and I will never put that in the past tense. To the Dosman family, I came across this obituary by chance. I met Greg 20 years ago at bevereament sessions in Richmond Hill hospice where we were both grieving loved ones. He was such a kind and friendly person and always had a warm smile. I am so sorry for your loss. Although I haven’t seen him in years, I always remember how kind he was.

My friendship with Greg started in grade 9, when we were both placed in Brebeuf’s first music course. We spent the next five years in the same class and shared a lot of good times together. Greg’s sense of humour, restrained whole-body laugh and wide, infectious smile is what I remember the most. That and piling into Greg’s pickup truck in the middle of winter for a meeting of the Brebeuf smoking club. Greg was one of the kindest, generous and most positive people I’ve ever known. But most of all, he was just fun to be with. Rest in peace, buddy.
I too was in that music class with Greg throughout high school, and valued his friendship for over 50 years. He was a gentle soul, always ready with a smile, quiet, positive and kind-hearted.
One of the strong bonds between Greg and so many of us was a deep love of music. He had big ears for good music, and sought out artists that were different, always wanting to share what he’d found with the rest of us.
To Michael, Jill, and all the Dosman family, my heart goes out to you all, and I wish you comfort knowing you’re all in our thoughts as you grieve Greg’s loss.
Greg, your illness of the past years was so unfortunate, and heartbreaking for your many friends. You’re a free man now. We’ll see you again soon enough.
Greg was like a brother to me, sharing our love of music and our times througout highschool & university. I could always count on Greg to join me at just about any concert. He was also my Best Man; deservedly named.
Watching Greg ‘s trip over the past few years has been very hard; but he thankfully responded to the music we played when we had the chance.
Mike, Jill & Family – you all worked so hard to make the best of a very challenging situation. It’s a both a big loss but hopefully also a relief, knowing that Greg benfitted from such strong support.
I attended Brebeuf high school with Greg, but got to know him better starting in university when I would visit family and friends attending Western.
Like the rest of us, Greg’s passion was music and he would always loyally support his musical friends by attending practices and performances. Greg was also an avid concertgoer who especially loved the energy, excitement, and honesty of live music. His eclectic CD collection spoke to his diverse tastes and extensive musical knowledge.
In addition, Greg travelled extensively, but preferred places off the beaten track where he could meet the locals, not other tourists.
Greg was not only a gifted raconteur but perhaps more important, an engaged listener who blessed you with his undivided attention.
Devotion to family was paramount for Greg. Nothing was more precious than time spent with his parents, brother, sister-in-law, niece, nephews, and cousins.
Greg, we will forever cherish your selfless nature, your cheerful demeanour, your intelligence, your common sense, your wit, and the way you made us all better just by your presence.
