Obituary
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Gregory Francis Leonard on April 1, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved best friend and husband of Mary (Bitonte) Leonard for over 38 years. Cherished father of Sarah (Andrew Cooke), Victoria (Phillip Tripp), and Laura (Dave Persaud). Adoring grandfather to Oliver, Noelle, and Alexander. Lovingly remembered by many siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, colleagues, neighbours, and friends.
The 4th child of Jean and the late Warren Leonard, Greg grew up in a large family of 11 children. Owner of Furs by Leonard, he worked tirelessly for his customers and was a respected member of the Furrier’s Guild and Fur Council of Canada. He was talented and hard working in everything he endeavored to do. Beloved by all, especially children and animals. A steadfast friend, car and racing enthusiast, and constant helper; he never hesitated to offer his time and compassion to anyone in need.
Due to Covid-19, a private funeral mass and internment will be held. A public celebration of life and memorial mass will be held for Greg’s family and friends at a later date. Our heartfelt thanks to our family, neighbours, and friends for their outpouring of love and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Greg’s name can be made to the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, specifically designated for the Dr. Natasha Leighl Research Fund, or the Lung Cancer Research fund. Our sincere gratitude to Dr. Andrea Bezjak, Dr. Natasha Leighl, and the entire team at Princess Margaret Hospital for their professionalism, compassion, dedication, and appreciation of Greg’s humor, persistence, and fighting spirit.
