elevated quywt Obituary
Born in Montreal to Lucile and Lucien Léger.
Predeceased by his wife, Lois (Shanahan) Léger.
Loving Father to Rev. Fr. Larry Léger, Chris (Maria Lockhart) Léger, and Julie (Ian) Tremblay.
Proud grandfather to Gabriel and Michael.
elevated quywt Guy was a Husband, Father, Uncle, Educator, Sailor, Cottager, Golfer, Traveller, and a Man of Faith. Graduating from Loyola University in Montreal, he began teaching at Catholic Central High School in London, ON. He quickly rose through the administration to be Co-Ordinator of Audio-Visual Services. In 1972 he took the same position with Metro Separate School Board (MSSB later became the TCDSB). Guy moved his family to Toronto and he eventually retired as a Superintendent of Education. In his time there, he was a well-respected leader of Senior Staff with the Board and oversaw the introduction computers into classrooms. One of Guy’s early passions was sailing on Sharbot Lake where the family vacationed and eventually purchased a cottage on what has become known as Léger Island. He also played a key role in bringing a Catholic School to Sharbot Lake. After Lois’ passing and his retirement, dad became a keen Golfer, eventually taking a membership at Rivendell in 2006 – which was halfway between the Lake and his new home in Kingston. Guy enjoyed travelling in his retirement – including travelling solo to New Zealand and Australia, travelling in small groups, and in larger organized tours with RTO. Most of all he was a proud grandfather, who loved to spoil grandkids. Guy lived and practiced his Catholic Faith and, with his wife Lois, passed on that faith. In his last weeks he was able to direct his treatment, choosing palliative care because he knew it was time to “go home” – go home to God.

Dear Father Larry and family. Please accept the deepest condolences from the St. John Vianney C.W.L. on the passing of your father, Guy. Your father has left the dock of this earthly world and is sailing into the safe harbour of his Father’s kingdom.
The Ship
I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until at length she hangs
like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky
come to mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says: “There, she is gone!”
“‘Gone where?”
Gone from my sight. That is all.
She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her.
And just at the moment when someone at my side says
“There, she is gone!” there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout,
“Here she comes!”
And that is dying.
Dear Fr Larry, Chris and Julie my condolences on the death of Guy . He truly was a gentle man and it was my pleasure to have him as my neighbour . Taught me that an orange slice attracted the orioles . Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers .
Guy was my very first full time boss at the TCDSB 1976.
One of the best things Guy did for me was that he gave me a leave of absence (against upper managements decision) so that I could acquire my grade 12 diploma and then later gave me the opportunity to take a higher position as an AV technician where I stayed on till I retired, 40 years later.
Although Guy looked tough he was an extremely compassionate man who believed in giving everyone a chance.
Guy will always have a special place in my heart.
Uncle Guy was an influence in my life for which I am grateful. I am a better person for it.
My children also benefitted from their great uncle’s warmth, remembering fun and his hospitality at Sharbot, his wit, his great laugh, his generosity and of course his best-in-class butter tarts!
Indeed a memorable man whom we will all miss dearly.
God bless your soul uncle Guy. God bless your family.
We extend our prayers and condolences to Guy’s family. As exemplified by his full life, Guy remains an educator’s educator involved in a myriad of educational activities and programs. He is warmly remembered by his colleagues and friends. May he rest in peace with the Lord.

I was surprised to discover after looking up Guy on the Internet a couple of days ago for no apparent reason to find his obituary today.

Our most sincere condolences to the whole family. We have such fond memories of Guy, as he was always such a delight to host, offering incredible perspective on so many worldly topics, always sharing so much wisdom. His excitement while watching his Bills always brought out the kid in him and he was always so joyful when it came to sports. It’s evident he was so impactful and contributed in so many ways with so many causes and people. May he be carried on angel’s wings to our loving father and may eternal rest be granted upon Him. Rest in Peace Guy. Sending you all lots of love.
Dear Fr. Larry,

We had the honour and privilege of knowing Guy and it is evident that Fr Larry is his son, both honourable men of great faith. God has called Guy home, may he rest in Peace, as he is reunited with his loved ones. Wishing the family love and strength during this difficult time.
Guy was a great colleague at MSSB. He willingly shared his expertise with those of us who were technically challenged. For a couple of years, we ran together on the Board’s corporate team. Drew will be missed by his many friends. I extend my condolences to Guy’s family and will include him in my prayers.
Guy was a very special man who touched the lives of many. I feel so fortunate to have known him. I will always remember his kindness and wisdom. I will miss Guy. My condolences to everyone in the Leger and Tremblay families.
So sorry for your loss Father Larry, our prayers and thoughts are with you and the family at this difficult time.
Sincerely
Muriel Maclean (from the good old days at MSSB)
I knew Guy as a father figure to his three children. He was a loving and attentive father, guiding his children’s decisions with care and compassion.
I am grateful for all the times he included me in the family fun up at Sharbot Lake with Julie.
He will be greatly missed.
RIP Guy. 🙏

My sincere sympathy on the death of Guy .A wonderful neighbour who taught me that An orange slice attracted orioles .He truly was a gentle man and it was my pleasure to know him . Know I have you in my thoughts @nd prayers .
The Leger Family. I remember you well. Back in the early 70s when St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic School opened & the Leger boys arrived on our doorstep. I got to know Lois & Guy well thanks to Larry & Chris. Guy always tried his best to walk on the sunny side of life. His positive energy & outlook on life served him well both as a father & as an educator. God bless Guy Leger & God bless the Leger Family. You have lots to celebrate.
Dear Leger family,
We were saddened to learn of Guy’s passing. He was a kind, fair and understanding man, with a sense of humour and never had a superior attitude. He treated people with respect and that respect was reciprocated in kind. No wonder he was Rusty’s favourite boss at the MSSB (AV Department). Guy helped make the AV department feel like a family.
Our family will never forget the time that Dad/ Rusty came home from the Laird office and shared the story of the canoe that Guy built. He had it hanging on display, proudly of course. Soon after, Rusty put up a sign stating that raffle tickets could be purchased. Who wouldn’t want this lovely canoe? Everyone had a good laugh.
Our family wishes to express our most sincere condolences to all of you. This is a profound loss to you and many who knew and loved Guy/Mr. Leger. May knowing that your Father/Grandfather, now rests in the Lord, give you all peace. After a very long time apart, he is also reunited with your Mother.
God Bless you all and your Dad’s soul. In Ukrainian, we say Vichnaya Pamyat. This simply states “Memory Eternal”. My Dad would have wanted me to add this.
Laura and the Osadchuk family

I am very grateful for many memories of uncle Guy and his family at Sharbot Lake, in Florida and even watching him sail off to Alaska under the Lions Gate Bridge here in Vancouver.
Guy was an excellent host, uncle and friend. I am very sad that this era has come to an end for my extended family.
My best wishes and condolences to Guy’s immediate family and to the many people who will miss him.
Fr. Larry and Family Leger: Just saw the obit in theToronto Star! Many years ago I inadvertently mentioned at a day of recollection with teachers in Downsview that I had recently met with Mr. Leger’s son and he ( Larry) was contemplating a vocation to the priesthood! Apparently Larry had not revealed his intentions as yet to his parents! The look on Guy’s face was one of surprise but not disappointment! A true man of faith and acceptance of the Lord’s will! Rest in Peace!
To Fr.Larry and family:
Our deepest and sincere condolences in the loss of your father .
You are in our prayers and thoughts. May Our Mother gives you all her maternal consolation.
