elevated 2UmSY Peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2020. Beloved husband of the late Helena Shuk-Wah. Caring and devoted father to Beatrice (Leonard Chan), Frances (Kwong-Lap Kwong) and Agnes (Anthony Cheung). Cherished grandfather to Janice (Owen), Leona, Calvin (Meghan), Clement and Bosco. Loving great grandfather to Lyra, Woodrow, Walter and Warner. He will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for his generosity, enthusiasm for lifelong learning and love of children. Our heartfelt thanks to his caregivers and the dedicated staff at Chartwell Gibson Long Term Care Residence.

I have lots of lovely memories of 公公:
– earliest memories include him pushing Leona and me on swings very, very hard so that we felt like we were flying
– many sleepovers on his sofa after watching Hollywood classic films with him late on Friday or Saturday nights. He introduced me to many black and white films.
– treating the family to delicious Sunday lunches after mass
– watching him do tai-chi every morning and read 3+ newspapers every day, and chatting with him about current news (he was always so knowledgeable about politics and the economy)
– his quirky, quiet sense of humour.
I miss him a lot, and will share lots of stories with my children about him and 婆婆 when they grow up.
Our condolences to the Ho family. Uncle is now in a better place reunited happily with Auntie Helena.
Uncle Henry, we will miss you dearly.
On behalf of the Lo family in Toronto and Hong Kong, I extend our sadness at the loss of Uncle Henry. We have been family and neighbours for so many decades, sharing daily Chinese newspapers that he read word by word after we dropped them off weekly at his townhouse. He always had wise advice for us, and always an open door and cup of tea for our visits. We will dearly miss him, and we take solace that he is now reunited with our graceful aunt Helena after so many years apart.
When I was asked who my hero is, my reply is always, “my Aunt Helena”. And beside Helena was always Uncle Henry, a man who worked a lot, and quietly. It never ceased to amaze me, even behind glasses, how much Uncle Henry’s eyes told. I had sat at the same table with my uncle, and had eaten many meals with him. Never had him commented much, but one could get clues of how he felt about something by observing him. I shall now cherish the memories of these meals, and be glad that my aunt and uncle are now at home with the Lord.
Going to miss my “buddy” very much. Thanks for video taping all of the biggest sporting events for me to re-watch time and again. Thanks for letting me pick all of my favourite things to eat at lunch every Sunday. Thanks for the endless Oh Henry bars and Coke cans that you let me sneak in after supper every Friday night.
Overjoyed that you were able to come to my biggest day when I married Meghan. Thrilled you got to meet our kids Woodrow Henry and Walter Scott but we were sad that you missed your newest great-grandchild Warner Hap by just two days. You would have loved him.
Rest easy with Grandma, working away at your stationary bike pedals and your newspapers. Heard the weather is great up there today.

Will be forever missed. I still remember all the Friday nights we spent as kids with our cousins at grandpa and grandmas place and how much love they provided us. Blessed to have him as a grandfather for as long as I did.
Dad is a doting father to us all and a loving grandfather to our kids. He has instilled a love of learning in all of us. I remember him teaching me how to use the abacus to add, and ended up us reading together to learn how to use it to multiply and divide. I have fond memories of him treating Calvin to his favourite lobster noodles and of him running down the street in his seventies chasing the school bus which left with Clem’s coat as Clem was dropped off from school. And all the Friday evenings as we all gather at their place for dinner after the kids’ Chinese school, watching jeopardy together.”
I don’t have many personal encounters with uncle Henry. The many times I went to Toronto, we had short chats and I found uncle Henry a very easy person to approach and talk to. He can talk about anything! I particularly enjoyed his hatred toward the Chinese communist government – my type of people! I also have vivid memories of uncle Henry reminding Leonard and myself all the games schedules the two summers I were in Toronto during World Cups. He not only remember the schedules; he knew so much about each player and team! He amazed me with his profound knowledge of the history and style of the teams. Uncle Henry: Rest in Peace! We all miss you!
We were so sorry to hear of the loss your beloved dad/grandpa, Henry. We know he is now not suffering and in a better place. It was so wonderful to meet him and have him attend Meghan and Calvin’s wedding.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time of loss and grieving for your loved one.

We shall fondly remember our dad as a kind and hard-working father, quietly serving his family especially our mom in her final years. He has taught us to be emphatic with the lesser privileged, loyal to his family and friends, dedicated to responsibilities at work, diligent in honing our skills, curious in the pursuit of new knowledge, and to save for a rainy day, recycle the waste, stay abreast of global affairs, and persevere in tackling problems. We thank God for dad’s longevity, as he has helped bind the family together as we scatter across the globe.
God has been very kind. He has revealed to me in a vivid dream, 3 days prior to our dad’s passing, about a much rejuvenated dad (in newly shaved, black hair) having breakfast with our mom, surrounded by heavenly bliss. God has chosen Lazarus Saturday, First Saturday and Ching Ming for our dad to board the plane to heaven. This adds to the countless blessings God has had for our family – the stroke he’s had on October 13 (Feast of Our Lady of Fatima), his admission to the nursing home on May 18 (birthday of Pope John Paul II), and we trust that the list shall go on.
Our dad shall no longer need an abacus, for infinity would be the new measurement unit. He is now free from the boundaries of time and space, and happily reunited with our mom, brother, grandmother and all others whom he loved.
May God receive his soul into heaven, resurrecting with Jesus this Easter, and blessing us from “upstairs”.
