elevated ufgPx It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful and dear mother Hermine Wekerle on January 5, 2020. Predeceased by her beloved husband Anthony of 55 years. She was the cherished and devoted mother to Caron (Klaus), Christine (Michael), Michael (Predeceased Lea-Anne), and Carolyn (Danny), proud grandmother to her lovely grandchildren, Celeste, Carlie, Christian, Michael, Colin, Carson, Danielle, Jonathan, Christel, Raquel, Adam, Ashton, and Emma, and kind aunt to Jutta, Heide and Eric, and loyal friend to many.
elevated ufgPx Hermine was a University of Toronto graduate, F.E.U.T. and O.I.S.E. She was a much loved and remarkable teacher for 25 years at Michael Power/St. Joseph Catholic High School in Etobicoke. As a retired teacher, she was invited to be a professor at O.I.S.E., sharing her expertise and love of teaching.
elevated ufgPx After growing up in Vienna, Austria, she came to Toronto and lived with the Sisters of Service. She met her husband, Anthony through St. Patrick’s German Congregation where, as a couple, they devoted many years to the Catholic church community as Eucharistic ministers, through pilgrimages, and of serving the greater church community.

Mrs Wekerle was always sweet, kind and complimentary to me and my husband. She had a quiet but strong resolve—an elegant and reserved lady who always smiled. RIP
I was a student at Michael Power/St. Joseph H.S. in the early 80s where Mrs. Wekerle practiced her profession. She was a fantastic teacher, one of the most caring people, and she changed the lives of all her students.
My deepest condolences to the Wekerle family and her friends. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
I was at the engagement party for Hermine and Tony (I was about six) and was struck even through my child’s eyes at her vitality and beauty. My father and Tony’s father were first cousins. I also recall that when Hermine worked at York University, at Vanier College, when I received my undergraduate degree, she was the person who handed it to me.

Frau Wekerle was my wonderful german teacher in the early 70’s at St. Joseph’s High School, Islington. She was a beautiful person who in addition to teaching us language, also succeeded in nurturing a love for learning about german culture through music, literature and the arts!
I will never forget her — my condolences to her family. May she rest in God’s loving peace.
I am so sorry for your loss. Mrs Wekerle was an incredible teacher and her impact on my life continues today almost 40 years later. Such a beautiful soul.
I have never forgotten Mrs. Wekerle’s kindness and zest for life, even though she taught me more than 40 years ago. My condolences to my former schoolmates Michael and Christina, and to all the family.
Our mother was a larger-than-life presence of lovingkindness, and a maternal presence to many others. Like St. Francis, she had a special bond with all animals who readily approached her for her tenderness. She delighted in her role as teacher and fondly recalled her students often. Her view was that “young people deserve a chance, and need just a bit of help.” She enjoyed dancing the Viennese waltz up to the last month of her being alive and was a fan of all the good things in live, especially laughing. Thank you for your beautiful being, now radiating from above!

Mrs. Wekerle was my Grade 10 German teacher in 1976. She was a great teacher, one of my favorites. Always respectful of her students. May she rest now in joy with her Maker and may her family be comforted knowing how well she lived her life and Catholic faith.

I have very fond memories of your mother as my German teacher at Michael Power/St Joe’s, especially when she encouraged us to attend dances at St Patrick’s Parrish. My deepest condolences to my classmate Caron and all the Wekerle family. I studied German with Frau Wekerle for four years at MPSJ in mid1970s. What a brilliant teacher she was, and such a lovely person. I was truly blessed to have had her as teacher and role model.
Hermine Wekerle was not only a teacher but a woman of integrity compassion and great love. I was one of her students and she was instrumental in directing my life into ministry
I pray that the our God give her rest in the eternal kingdom of heaven where there is no more pain sorrow or suffering but life everlasting.
She will always be remembered.

Mrs. Wekerle was one of the kindest and gentle ‘mom’s’ I knew as a child and in my youth, whose passions for giving back and living were a true inspiration. I have so many fond memories of her and your father, and of you all, especially the youth groups and and dances at St. Pat’s. They were fun times indeed. Mrs. Wekerle will be deeply missed. May she rest in peace, in the arms of our Lord in Heaven.

She was my teacher in high school and I will always remember how sweet she was to me. Years later while working at GMP she always gave me a hug when she came to the trading eesh. Rip!!!

Dear Michael, Caron and Klaus, on behalf of our entire family, I offer my condolences. We know what it is to lose a mother, a grandmother; we just lost our at Christmas. Michael, you were with us to support when it happened. It was more than appreciated. I wish I could be there to do the same. Caron and Klaus, bon courage, I’m sure it’s just a goodbye. Mrs. Wekerle was a lovely person and it has always been a great pleasure to meet her. I am sure you will continue to pass on the values that were dear to her. All heartfelt sympathy to the Wekerle Family .
Our family’s shared two special people . Our Mothers who’s friendship which and love for one another was one rarly found . They were childhood friends in Austria and lasted over 75 years and many miles. Tante Mady would greet us like royalty when we arrived in Toronto on one of our many annual trips . She greeted us with the best cold cuts and pastries one could find . Once there, our Mothers would sneak away and you heard them speaking in German and laughing, enjoying pastry and coffee until late into the night or until Tony came looking for them and made them retire . Or so he thought ..
I always felt honored to share in just a small part of their friendship. Tante Mady had a heart of gold and just overflowed with her love and pride of her children.
I have so many fond memories of Tante Mady and trips to Toronto that I will cherish forever. I take great comfort knowing now these two friends are together again .
