elevated dIEvp Jane Catherine Vandebelt (nee Reeves) passed away at 82 peacefully with family at her side at Southlake Regional Hospital in Newmarket, Ontario on Tuesday afternoon on November 23, 2021. Predeceased by her beloved husband Bill (William) Haley Vandebelt, her parents William Daniel and Lillias Lindsay (nee Clark) Reeves, her big brother Tommy (Thomas) Clark Reeves and her baby sister Lillias Helen Sunderland (Reeves). She will be deeply missed by her son Gordon (Katherine) Vandebelt, her brother William (Marilyn) Reeves and brother-in-law William Sunderland. A Loving proud Grandma to Cortney (Kevin) Fretz and William Vandebelt.
elevated dIEvp Jane was born in Kirkland Lake, ON and was first generation Canadian. Jane moved to Toronto in the early 60’s and started working at Bell. After joining a bowling league, she met and fell in love with Bill and soon they were a family with Gord. Once Gord finished elementary school, Jane joined Tim Hortons, which turned out to be a great way to keep the pulse of the community while raising a middle schooler. She moved to opportunities through the years and her favorite job was working at the architect firm in Oakville. Jane left us with wonderful stories about her adventures at guides, skiing, swimming, travels to Long Point Lake with family and the infamous animal tricks. Jane loved spending time with family and friends. Many of us enjoyed benefits of her talents for sewing, crochet and knitting and will remember her each time we wrap ourselves in a blanket she made to keep us warm during the Canadian winters.
elevated dIEvp We are deeply grateful to the wonderful friends and services that have supported and helped Jane over the years.
elevated dIEvp Jane will be dearly missed. We will honour her request to hold a family only graveside service and interment. In honour of her memory and in spirit of Jane’s love for animals, if you wish to show your respect or say good-bye to her, consider making a memorial donation to the non-profit organization Underdog Railroad Canada. Gordie,
I am so very sorry to hear this. While I haven’t seen your Mom in many years both her and your Dad hold a special place in my heart. Always an aunt and uncle to me. Sending huge hugs.
Gordy, my heart aches for you and your family. Aunt Jayne was so proud of you, and your family . As the oldest cousin on the Vandebelt side of the family, I have so many great memories even before you were born . Uncle Billy was only 11 yrs older than me, so once he brought your Mom around and they got engaged she always told me not to call her aunt , she said it made her feel old ! I always think of her as a straight forward, and gentle lady . Definitely the Kirkland Lake style 😄 Their wedding was a very big deal to me , and she was very good at including me , so I felt I was included . It was a great wedding 👰 by the way , she looked to me like a princess! She always stayed in touch with us particularly My Mom. Of course your dads sudden death was devastating, at least at that time we had Ralph Occoner at Rosars on sherbourne st , next street over from Bleeker st . My Mom never really got over it and I know she appreciated getting together with her and Aunt Dawn . Over the years we lost touch , but I spoke to her after I got back from Greece with Jim and Shelly . Of course we were going to visit and then Covid hit , which sucks big time. I’m so glad you and your family are ok , given that you live in Florida Sorry to be so long winded , but given that Aunt Dawn died recently, it’s particularly hard to lose Aunt Jayne too . She is truly the last of that generation of Vandebelts . I hope at some point we can connect in person, in the meantime will send good vibes as you navigate through this Love Heather
