It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jane Laratta on December 12, 2025 in Toronto General Hospital. Jane was 75 years old and fought both kidney dialysis and heart disease with courage and kindness.
Jane was born in Hong Kong in 1950 and raised in Calcutta (India). She immigrated to Canada in 1969.
She was best known for her enthusiasm, joyful spirit, and dedication to helping others, particularly in her career as an operating room nurse, transplant coordinator, teacher, and mentor.
She is survived by her children Michelle and Rachel and lives on in her grandchildren Dante, Makayla, and Cassius.
She will be forever missed by her devoted brothers Wuchow, Michael, Wuchen, and Wukuang and is predeceased by her father Chung Hua Than and her mother Marjorie Than.
Jane will be dearly remembered by her family, friends, colleagues, and all who came to know her.

Jane, your instruction to which tools to use gifted me the incredible experience at UHN OR, which has been the highlight of my career. Those same tools, lead me to the beautiful life I have today. I will never forget the life’s lessons you taught me.
