Jean Margaret Dashkevich (nee Allen)
elevated 1Ms46 It is with hearts full of love, gratitude and graceful acceptance that we announce the passing of our Beloved Mother, Jean Margaret Dashkevich (nee Allen) on July 5, 2023, surrounded by her loving daughters and the ‘super hero’ staff of Hill House Hospice in Richmond Hill. Jean was 84 years old, born in Toronto to the late John and Helen Allen (Hemphill). She grew up on Rosethorn Avenue with her late sister Dorothy, brother-in-law Johnny Acorn, and doting Grannie (Jane) Allen. At age 19, Jean was introduced to Ron ~ the love of her life ~ whom she married at age 21, and their epic love story continued until Ron’s passing in December 2016. They are both dearly missed by daughters Michelle Helen, Tracey-Lee Dash-Simpson, Vikki Jean, son-in-law Michael Simpson, grandchildren Samuel and Veronika Simpson, the entire Acorn Family, sister (in-law) Armandina Maziarczyk and her extended Family of loving nieces/nephews and their children.
elevated 1Ms46 Jean had a knack for creating a cozy and loving home, and developing life-long friendships with wonderful people. She was an excellent cook (renowned for creating Christmas feasts, Birthday celebrations, and making The Best Butter Tarts using her own Mom’s recipe!). She loved rifling through recipe books, listening to Neil Diamond, dancing to ABBA, spending time with family and friends, sipping chardonnay, travelling the world with Ron (and Frank and Virgie, and her Girls), cruising, and spending time in Florida (on the beach, shopping, exploring, and watching sunsets!). Her favourite job of all time was working as Executive Assistant to the President of Glen-Warren Productions of CFTO-TV fame, back in the ‘glory days’ of taping “The Muppets”, “Sonny & Cher Show”, “The Bobby Vinton Show”, “Circus”, “Stars on Ice”, “Hospital for SickKids Telethon”, and even “The Mad Dash” gameshow! She accomplished this with humour, efficiency and grace while being an amazing Mom of three girls plus two dogs, and a valued member of Compower Technical Systems’ original employees (Ron’s company)!
elevated 1Ms46 Jean was a true “Warrior Woman” who soldiered on valiantly and without complaint through several medical challenges, surgeries, and treatments, bravely enduring all so she could get on with living Life. She was the very definition of humility, courage, hard work, thrift, love, sharing, service and compassion, always putting the needs of others ahead of her own.
elevated 1Ms46 “Little Jeannie Dash”: you will be forever in our hearts; your love, dedication and strength will continue to inspire us daily, and we will always cherish the beautiful memories you’ve gifted us. MOM: thank you for everything you have given your children, grandchildren, extended Family and Friends during your precious time as our Mother, Nana, best friend, neighbour and companion.
elevated 1Ms46 The Family would like to acknowledge and extend their heartfelt gratitude to Hill House Hospice, and especially Dr. Brian Berger and the compassionate nurses, staff and volunteers who gave love, comfort and warmth to Jean in her final days. In lieu of flowers, “in memoriam” donations to Hill House Hospice, 36 Wright St., Richmond Hill, are kindly encouraged.
elevated 1Ms46 The Family will receive friends at the Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home, 211 Langstaff Road East (west of Bayview Ave.), Thornhill, from 10:00 am – 11:45 am on Thursday, July 13, 2023, in the Bishop Power Room.
elevated 1Ms46 Mass will follow directly at 12:00 noon same day within the funeral home in the Chapel of St. Joseph, followed by a Celebration of Jean’s Life to take place at Angus Glen Golf Club, 10080 Kennedy Road, Markham, in the ‘Kennedy Loft’ (above the ‘Victoria Room’) from 1:00 pm to 6:00pm. For those who wish to attend, the final rite of committal and interment will take place directly following Mass, at Christ The King Catholic Cemetery, 7770 Steeles Avenue East, Markham (enter by Reesor Road only, not from Steeles Ave.). Time for interment is approximately 1:15 pm – 1:45 pm, following which attending Family and Friends will join the Celebration of Life at Angus Glen Golf Club.
