After a short illness (Peter) James McMahon at the age of 82 passed away peacefully on 01/17/2019. Jim leaves behind and will be sadly missed by his sons: Douglas, Brian (Patricia) and James Jr., his sisters Catherine, Lois (John) and Tina, his sisters-in-law Jean and Jo-ann, his grandchildren Valerie (Mike), Sandra (Matthew) and Thomas, and his great grandchild Ethan. He is pre-deceased by his sons; Ronnie and Michael, and his brothers; John and George.Growing up on Prince Edward Island, as a young man he went to Toronto, looking for that break in the big City. Jim started a long career in the automotive industry. After fixing cars for years, he joined the Insurance Industry and became an Auto Appraiser, which took him all the way to retirement. Along the way, Jim had a passion for hockey which was fulfilled by moving through the ranks of Junior hockey as a scout, looking for that special young man, to help them advance with their skills to the next level of Play. Earning his credentials allowed Jim to progress through the younger age groups to the NHL level and scouted the arenas of Southern/Eastern/Western Ontario looking for that next young NHL star. Jim shared his scouting/assessment talent with the Hartford Whalers, St Louis Blues, New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers, and culminate his scouting career with the Stanley Cup winning, 1994 New York Rangers. A special Thank You to the Staff at Credit Valley Hospital, in Mississauga, that made Jim’s final weeks a positive and comfortable environment. Rest in peace, Uncle James.
Love to all of our family who are grieving his passing.
I’ll cherish my memories of the sweet kindness and jovial welcomeness he always extended to me over the years. I feel so grateful to Denise for bringing me to visit Uncle James in the hospital this past Christmas Eve so that I could enjoy his company and humour one last time.
My deepest sympathies to Brian and Pat, Doug and Jimmy Jr., Tina and all of the family. I have known Big Jim from a very young age and he always made me laugh, he was a great guy. Your buddies Tom Bourke and Lorne(Tink) and Gail Fillman will miss you. May you R.I.P, Jim. Lois Bourke
