elevated 2BGn6 “It is with a heavy heart that we, the Teixeira family, announce the passing of Joao Manuel Teixeira. Joao died peacefully in the palliative care unit of Credit Valley Hospital with his family by his side on December 25th 2020 at 8:05am. Joao will be joining his mother, Olinda Teixeira, father, Joao Teixeira, sisters, Fernanda Teixeira and Alda Ornelas, and his niece, Lucy Teixeira in heaven as they greet him with open arms. Joao is survived by his wife Maria Lidia Teixeira, daughter Fatima Teixeira, son-in-law Luis Teixeira, granddaughter Nicole Teixeira (Ernest Patrick – partner), granddaughter Stephanie Teixeira (Diego Moreno – fiancé) and his sisters, Olinda Teixeira, Teresa Pacheco, Manuela Cativo and Fatima Ornelas. Joao was born in Madeira, Portugal on June 8th 1943. He grew up with his six sisters and mother in the area of Gaula on the island. Joao married his wife Lidia on December 18th 1967 and shortly after they made their move to Toronto, Canada. On October 3rd 1968 Joao and Lidia welcomed their only daughter Fatima Teixeira into the world. He lived with his wife and daughter in his Toronto house along with his late father-in-law Manuel Poeira, son-in-law Luis Teixeira and eventually granddaughters Nicole and Stephanie Teixeira for 33 years until they all moved to Mississauga into two separate houses as neighbors.  Joao cared tremendously for his family, his home, his garden, Madeira Island and his favorite, red wine. He was known by people in his neighborhood as a friendly man who would speak and wave to people passing by. Even while going through dialysis, which he did on his own, he would still travel and visit his family in both Rhode Island and Madeira Island. He was lucky enough to receive a double kidney transplant which blessed him with many more years with his family and friends. Joao’s favourite past time aside from gardening was watching soccer. He was a life long fan of Benfica and Portugal and followed the career of Cristiano Ronaldo very closely. Flowers in his honor are of course welcomed and monetary donations in his honor to the Canadian Cancer Society are welcomed.
