elevated HAvOS It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of (John) Michael Pinto. Michael was the beloved husband of Juliana and devoted father to Maurice (Lorraine). Born in Nairobi, Kenya, Michael was the eldest son of the late Jacinto and Virginia Lourdes Pinto. He was the loving brother of late Monica (late Mackie), Martha (late Monty), Felix (Jane), late Ruby (late Raul), Philo (Rosa), late Francis (Flory), and Victor. Michael is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and their families.
elevated HAvOS In Nairobi, Michael was the Bursar at the Medical Training Centre and described it as the best satisfaction in his life. Upon his retirement at age 50, Michael and Juliana made the decision to move to Canada for their son’s education. In Canada he continued to work at Philips Electronics which he enjoyed until he stopped at the age of 65 due to health issues. Michael was an avid sportsman and enjoyed playing cricket, field hockey, soccer, badminton, table tennis, bowling and was a well-known tennis player in Goan circles in Nairobi, Kenya. He continued to play tennis until age 80.
elevated HAvOS Michael will be remembered for his life of service to the Catholic Church and the community as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus Pickering Council at St. Isaac Jogues Parish and transferred to the Thornhill Council at St. Pascal Baylon Parish in his later years. He was the Thornhill Council Membership Co-ordinator and took pride in starting and continuing to write the Council newsletter to his final days. In his late 80s, Michael lost both of his legs below the knee to diabetes. This did not slow him down or dampen his cheerful spirit. The family is extremely grateful to the Knights for their friendship and support over the years. Michael and Juliana had an active social life and made many friends at the Bridge Club and the Seniors Clubs they belonged to.
elevated HAvOS Michael’s life was lived with a deep love for his family, respect for all, determination, and strength. No obstacle was too large for him to overcome. His kindness, generosity and soft-spoken words will be greatly missed by family and friends but cherished in our hearts forever.

Dear Juliana & Family!
Me and my late husband Kevin, who was Treasurer at the Canorient Seniors Club, met you’ll for the first time at the Club. We always remember you wheeling Michael into the Club and seeing his smile. You were a wonderful couple, and we always looked forward to seeing you’ll at the events. RIP Michael, andI am sure you have met up with my Kevin, who as his bowling buddies always said Kevin from Heaven. God Bless you Juliana and your family.

Michael was a Father’s figure to us.He had a calming influence to us on the Bridge table.
I knew him at SFX Seniors Club and will miss him dearly.

Dear Juliana and family,
Our sympathies on the passing away of Michael, a day before his 95th birthday.
Although we have not seen each other for some time now, we have happy memories of our friendship during our earlier days in Nairobi and Kisumu.
Michael was an upright person, kind and loving to all.

Never ever got into any arguments. In any discussion he was always very considerate to those around. He would make a point and left it to be accepted or refused but would never insist.
He belonged to a unique class, which is so
rare to find in the world today.
He was just wonderful “inside-out”

I remember Uncle Michael with pride and affection. When I was a child he took me to the tea estates in Kericho, a trip I enjoyed. He was quietly spoken with a sense of humour and was a great sportsman. Uncle Michael did influence me during my childhood. In the 1960s, when I was a teenager, he thought me the nuance of tennis. I can still hear him say “ 1st serve should be fast like Mike Sangaster” or “model your backhand on Ken Rosewall” or “return the ball low over the net with topspin”. For his valuable advise I shall be truly grateful.
We lost contact when he emigrated to Canada and me to the UK.
It is with happiness that I remember his life and the time in Kenya, and sadness on his passing. Rest in Peace Uncle Michael.
