With your sudden demise, our Mommy is truly hurt but she manages to calm herself by always mentioning your name in all her daily prayers.

Dear cousin/brother Joel,
We are cousins by relation but you are a brother in my heart. Your sudden demise left us with pain and sorrow beyond measure and although we prayed for a miracle that day, God had other plans… and that, we have to accept. I don’t know how to say goodbye to you my dear Joel. I only know that you will forever live in our hearts, our memories and we will always cherish the legacy you have left behind.
Growing up with you was filled with love, laughter, adventures and occasional mishaps and childish squabbles. But you always manage to make me feel like a winner, even if I feel that I have lost. Like the time you were teaching me how to play cards at Lido Beach, when the loser drinks a shot of water, I must have drank a gallon of water! I never felt that I lost the game though, you simply told me I needed “more practice”, then we laughed our hearts away. When we lost the singing competition, it was not because I did not sing well, it was because the person playing the guitar made us change the song. He made us lose. A few of our many happy memories.
My boys often wait for you to wake up when we visit Cavite so you can let them in your room where you kept your “baul” filled with your childhood toys and happily played with them or show them how to make bubbles with gumamela flowers/leaves and tickle them endlessly. Our “cool uncle” Basil would say.
Your legacy of caring, gentleness, generosity and your heart so pure and full of love for us, specially Liza, Elaiza, Tia Betty, Marie and Arlene. We will forever miss the sound of your voice singing happy birthday to us.
Although you are not here physically, you will forever live in our hearts… I love you my dear cousin/brother… until we meet again

As a child, I often saw you in Christmas. You were like Santa Claus to me. And after the holidays, you had to go back home to Saudi or Canada, i remember that i cried a lot. i was unconsolable, because I missed you.
As a grown up, the feeling remains the same, if not more. I was deeply shocked and saddened by your sudden goodbye. However now, you are simply not going back to Saudi or Canada. I believe you are already truly at home, with our Godly Creator.
You’ve taught me to always accept God’s will, so I trust you are in a better resting place now.
Whenever i see the Rudolph Christmas Toys you have given me, it reminds me of the happy memories of my childhood with you. In our conversations as of late, I will always remember your advise and all the moments you were present in my life. Thank you for giving me strength and support thru all these years.

It’s hard to put into words the ache I feel knowing that you’re no longer here. Sometimes, we assume we have all the time in the world, we take the people we love for granted. My biggest fault is always thinking that there is a next time. I regret not reaching out more often, not making plans to see each other and letting our busy days get in the way of reconnecting and bonding. There were moments where I thought about catching up but I let the days slip by. Now I wish I had those moments back. Even though we lost communication with each other, the memories we do share are precious to me. I think about the fun we had during our childhood whenever we visit Nanay B. I will cherish the memories we did make and hold onto them as tightly as I can. Rest in peace, Joel. I hope wherever you are, you know you were loved and how deeply you will be missed.
