elevated W2U55 Obituary

Joseph Alexander Sultana passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on December 4, 2025, in Mississauga. He was born on November 16, 1949, in Mosta, Malta, the son of the late Lawrence and Annunziata Sultana.

Joseph warmed the hearts of everyone who knew him, and his passing has deeply broken them. Joe, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of his family, friends, and all whose hearts he touched. His journey on this earth was marked by his warm, generous nature and his unwavering faith in God. He will be remembered for the profound impact he had on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

From a young age, Joe dreamed of becoming a soccer player. He even established the Mosta Gunners, creating a team for underprivileged young men in his hometown. His love for the sport continued throughout his life – both as a player and a coach – and he was well known for his devotion to the Juventus team.

At 25, Joe immigrated to Canada in pursuit of a better life for his family. Becoming a Canadian citizen was among his proudest achievements. His hardworking spirit and determination led to great success in the field of logistics, allowing him to fulfil his dream of providing a stable and prosperous future for his loved ones. His own immigrant experience inspired a lifelong empathy and deep appreciation for newcomers striving to build a secure future.

Joe was deeply cultured and social. He loved discussing current events, politics, culture, philosophy, religion, and history with anyone willing to engage. He had a gift for conversation and effortlessly adapted his tone and approach to make everyone feel welcome, appreciated, and at ease. He was endlessly curious about the lives of others and held a deep respect for people’s unique stories, backgrounds, and choices.

The love of family was the true centre of Joe’s life. Family dinners, parties, dances, and picnics were highlights of his busy social calendar. As a Maltese immigrant, he was often the joyful spark within Italian gatherings, and he thoroughly enjoyed being at the heart of the action. Joe was also deeply grateful for the simple gestures: a call, email, text, or even a quick ‘Hi, how are you?’ were enough to make his heart smile. His loving friends who brought him joy throughout his life will miss him dearly.

Joe is survived by his wife, Teresa; his daughter, Marice; his grandchildren, Mikaela and Daniel; his sisters, Rita, Mary, Catherine, and Doris; his stepchildren Lucia (Joe), Marco (Vilma), and Gennaro (Christina); his step-grandchildren Brittany (Trevor), Jessica (Danny), Savannah (Mataous), Erica, and Julia; and his step-great-grandchild, Jaelen.

He will be remembered for his infectious smile, contagious laughter, deep-rooted faith, generous spirit, and unwavering commitment to spreading love and kindness to everyone he encountered. Joe had a rare gift for connecting deeply with others, making them smile, and leaving a lasting impact on everyone whose path he crossed.

Joe, you will be profoundly missed. No one could ever replace your gentle, helpful, and loving nature or your remarkable gift for uplifting those around you and making everyone feel truly seen, valued, and uniquely special. You will never be forgotten. We take comfort in knowing you are reunited with your loving parents, your brother, Karmenu, your sister, Vittoria (Pacifico), your nephew, Joseph, and your beloved son-in-law, Bertino. We know you are finally in their embrace once more. Rest in eternal peace and comfort. We love you.
