elevated 38GTG Joseph’s parents Tien Fook (John) Chung and Siam Yun (Mary) Chen left Meixian, China for a better life in India. Just like his parents, Joseph left conflict-torn India, Bangladesh, Pakistan in search of a better life for his family in North America. With his family back home, he made the journey alone and to a foreign place to New York in 1971. Eventually, he settled in Toronto, Canada in 1972. He was the first in the Chung and Yang family to immigrate to Canada. He would eventually sponsor his brother Gerry and brother-in-law Richard in 1972. In 1974, he was joyously reunited with his wife and 3 children (at the time) to begin their new life together in Canada. He later completed the family unit with his first generation Canadian born in 1976.

elevated 38GTG He enjoyed cooking, photography, gardening (some still have his pear trees) and especially fishing. He spoke different Indian dialects, Chinese dialects and English. He was a hard worker and multi-skilled and held many jobs which included working as a chef, photographer, microfiche developer, and translator.

elevated 38GTG Joseph was a kind and gentle man and as many have mentioned it was his smile that they remembered most.

elevated 38GTG Thank you for taking the risk and that first step to give us a better life here in Canada. We are indebted to you forever.
