elevated L91Lf Obituary

elevated L91Lf It is with deep sorrow we mourn the sudden passing of Josephine Latorre, at the age of 86 on Monday, January 18, 2021.  Beloved wife of the late Austin Latorre.  Cherished mother of Malcolm (May Griffith), Sandra (Kevin Burek) and the late Karen.  Devoted and Caring “Abuelita/Yaya“ to Meagan, Marisa, Maria, Brigitte and Kaelen.

elevated L91Lf  Josephine was a kind and caring person with a huge heart and friendly smile.  She made everyone feel welcome and accepted people for who they were with open arms. Many who visited her house or lived near by had the pleasure of enjoying her baking and delicious food, as well as fruits, flowers and vegetables from her extensive garden.

elevated L91Lf She was always there for her children through any life events or challenges and cared deeply and genuinely for her family, friends and acquaintances. She took a lot of pleasure and loved dearly all of her grandkids and enjoyed spending time with them and watching them grow.  She also made it a priority to keep in touch with family in Spain, Venezuela and France, and friends she made throughout her life.  She had a strong sense of community and developed long lasting friendships through connections made wherever she went, whether it be through the Spanish Club of Toronto or artists groups to which she belonged.

elevated L91Lf She was a strong and caring person, persevering through her oldest daughter’s illness and loss, as well as assisting her in that journey.  She later cared for her husband becoming his primary caregiver following a stoke.

elevated L91Lf Josephine was also a smart and creative person, and a talented and passionate artist. She took lots of pleasure in photography, painting (primarily in oil, but also in watercolour), and pottery. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting and knitting, and has made many items, some of which we still cherish 30 years on.  Many of her talents she shared with others through teaching and participation in groups such as the Willowdale Group of Artists, North York Visual Artists, and Toronto Potters.  She was the recipient of many awards and her paintings can be found in many private collections.

elevated L91Lf Josephine will be missed terribly, but we will carry on with the beautiful memories she has left with all of us.

elevated L91Lf In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca) in her memory.
