elevated A7nBV Joyce was born in 1931 in Sri Lanka and immigrated to Canada in 1991.  Amidst raising 6 children, she found time to volunteer at the local church events and fundraisers. In the evenings, Joyce taught English as a second language to adults and children for a nominal fee OR for whatever they could afford to pay or not pay at all. She maintained a home that was welcome to anyone who wanted to drop in or stay awhile with no prior reservations required. She always found a way to ensure there was enough to share with everyone, a warm meal and a restful sleep.

elevated A7nBV Joyce was religious and God fearing. She wanted us (her children) to be the best we could be, to engage and to empower others. She always was more the listener than the talker. Joyce led by example.

elevated A7nBV Words of Wisdom she tried to instill in us all:

elevated A7nBV “Don’t wait until you have enough to give…you will never have enough”

elevated A7nBV “Jealousy is a wasted emotion…. only the person who’s jealous is harmed by it”

elevated A7nBV “Don’t give expecting anything back”

elevated A7nBV “Do what’s RIGHT and leave the rest….”

elevated A7nBV The Tissera Family is thankful to the Care Teams on the 5th Floor and Recreation Staff at the Westbury, Etobicoke who not only did their jobs…but went above and beyond the call of duty and truly loved Joyce and engaged her.
