elevated CJzWC It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Józef Trojan.
elevated CJzWC He was born in Pietrycze, Poland on April 3, 1930. As a teenager, Józef, his family and thousands of others were displaced from their ancestral homes in eastern Poland at the end of the Second World War and had to forge new lives and livelihoods in Ziemie Odzyskane (Recovered Territories) in western Poland. The Trojan family settled in the farming community of Sobczyce, near Głogów.
elevated CJzWC In his early 20’s, Józef left the farm and moved to the city of Świdnica to become a master tool and die maker, a trade he truly excelled in both in Poland and later in Canada, where he emigrated with his family in 1977.
elevated CJzWC Józef was a humble and generous man who always showed up for his family and friends when it mattered.
elevated CJzWC He loved celebratory gatherings, believing that life, good food and camaraderie were meant to be enjoyed and shared.
elevated CJzWC Józef was grateful for every favour, ride to a doctor’s appointment or friendly visit (with a compulsory scratching of a lottery ticket) when he no longer could fend for himself. And there was always a Werther’s candy (or four!) in his pocket to say “thank you” to Copernicus staff for their help or, occasionally, to swap for a packet of sugar with his co-residents.
elevated CJzWC Józef must be admired for his solid work ethic, strong will to determine his own life story and steadfastness, staying true to himself to the end of his days.
elevated CJzWC Józef passed peacefully on June 27, 2026 at St. Joseph’s Health Centre. He will be always lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his children: Bogusia (Voy), Waldek (Marzena) and Grażyna (Jarek) and their mother, Aniela; grandchildren: Lisa, Gary, Dennis, Kasia and Talia; great grandchildren: Emma, Jack, Max, Apollo and Boone; and brother Marian and other relatives in Poland.
