elevated fkrmF Obituary
elevated fkrmF It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Juliana. Juliana was the beloved wife of late Michael and proud and loving mother to Maurice (Lorraine). Juliana was the sixth child of late Francisco & Maria Gomes. Loving sister of late Louis (late Maria), late Anna Maria (late Profirio), late Leonor (late Elisio), late Edociana (late Wilfred), late Theodore, late Donato (Bulena), and late Bernadina (late Timothy). Juliana is also survived by many loving nieces & nephews and their families.
elevated fkrmF Juliana was very religious and would always have a prayer tucked away in her wallet or by her bedside. This is one of the prayers found in her wallet.
elevated fkrmF “Dear Mother of Perpetual Help, hold me close to your heart in the same way you held your Son Jesus: and ask the Archangels, St. Michael and St. Gabriel to help me in all my needs. Amen”.
elevated fkrmF She was known by her shortened name, Julia, by everyone. She had the great pleasure of growing up in a large and loving family in Colva, Goa in India. Even though they are spread all over the world now, they were always in her heart.
elevated fkrmF Julia did her high schooling in Hubli at the Sacred Heart Convent, and then took a secretarial course in Bombay. She then worked there until she met Michael who had come from Kenya with his mother on a visit. Michael was introduced to her by her sister Leonor. Some time after, Julia departed Goa to travel to Kenya where she then married Michael in 1960. A year later Maurice was born. Many lovely years were had in the countryside, Kisumu and Nairobi.
elevated fkrmF It was in 1976 that through Julia’s foresight, Julia and Michael made the move across the world again to an unknown land for a better life for their son. Julia started work as a secretary for Munich Reinsurance of Canada and remained there for the remainder of her career. At the beginning it was hard work settling in Canada, but eventually the family made another home here. It was a very courageous move for their age.
elevated fkrmF It was not until Maurice had finished his schooling that Julia could relax. It was in Julia’s retirement years that she really began to enjoy life, meeting new friends and travelling. She enjoyed sewing, decoupage, and craft embroidery including Bunka, and quilting. She was very engaged socially, partaking in many activities as a member of the Pickering Seniors Club, Canorient Seniors Club, and St. Francis Xavier Seniors Club. She used to practice her singing in the Canorient choir, and both she and Michael played Bridge together everyday at home as well as at the club and in tournaments. Julia was also quite involved in charitable work along with Michael who was a Brother of the Knights of Columbus. She and Michael were truly loved and appreciated by their friends.
elevated fkrmF Among her treasured travels, were her trip to Israel to the Holy Land and to Europe to visit the holy sites. She made a point of going to see her family who were dispersed all over the world, including England, Germany, Australia, USA, Goa, and Spain. She enjoyed going on trips with her Bridge club or Seniors club to the Caribbean Islands and on cruises enjoying activities and playing Bridge.
elevated fkrmF Juliana is to be remembered for her strength and love for her family. She wanted for nothing. Her family was enough. Her only wish was for her children to be successful, happy and safe.

Thank you, your kindness in this time is much appreciated. Dad loved Bridge more so than mum and actually made a study of the game.

Thank you, your love and support help make this hard time easier as we move through this difficult period.
Dear Maurice and Lorraine:
My sincere condolences on the death of your beloved mother. It can be challenging to lose both dearly loved parents within a year. As the first hymn in today’s funeral mass reminded us, don’t be afraid … to take the time you need to feel all your emotions … knowing that you are not alone, that God is with you always. As your Mum did, keep a prayer of love tucked close to your heart, knowing that your Mum and Dad continue to stay close to you connected by love.
May your Mum be reunited with your Dad and may they rest in the eternal peace, grace and love of God.
(P.S. You gave a lovely tribute to your Mum and she must be looking over you feeling proud of the son you are.)
With sympathy.
Thank you for your touching and compassionate words of encouragement. Mum was the last of her seven brothers and sisters and was prepared for her time when it came. I just wasn’t. Be there for your parents as they are always there for you. I wear my dads simple watch, and you just gave me the idea to put a prayer that was close to mum in my wallet.
My Deepest sympathy for your mother’s passing. My late husband Franco and I knew your Mum and Dad from when we were in Nairobi and became close friends. We always kept in touch with them when they relocated to Canada, and were very pleased when they came to visit us in Boston. I will always keep happy memories of them and in my prayers. I hope it gives you comfort in knowing that she is at peace and reunited with your father. God bless, Celine & family.
Dear Celina,
Thank you for your heartwarming message. You welcomed us into your home and we were family. One of my favourite memories, around 17yrs. old, was of the whole family playing Uno and having so much fun. Mum and dad loved you and Franco. I am happy you got to talk with her recently on the phone. I was with her at the time and it really lifted her spirits.
Love,
Dear Maurice and family, We were so sorry to learn of your dear Mother’s passing. May you find comfort in knowing she is resting in the loving arms of her Savior, and finding comfort with her beloved Michael. We will remember her fondly.
Canute & Eve DeSouza
Thank you Canute and Eve,
Your support and thoughts make this difficult time easier. I never thought of losing mum and dad, as they were so active before. But this pandemic denied them of all that was fun in their life. Be there for your mum, I am sure you all are. I recall her saying Carol lives close by.
I know mum is in a better place with dad and her family and this gives me some peace.
Love,
